BritishV8 2009

June 7 - 10

Durham, North Carolina

Meeting coodinators Max Fulton and Emily Turner organized a very full schedule of exciting and unique activities to fill our time from Sunday evening though Wednesday night. Specifically, we enjoyed Tech Sessions (on car lifts!), "Show and Tell" sessions, Go-Karting, runs on Chassis Dyno, a tour of two race car prep shops and of a top-flight Machine Shop, and much more.

The Heacock Classic Gold Cup Historic Races

BritishV8 2009 was scheduled back-to-back with "The Gold Cup", June 5-7 at "VIR" (Virginia International Raceway) outside nearby Danville VA. VIR is one of America's premier roadracing venues. VIR was originally opened in 1957, but was closed for business from 1974 until 2000. The track is 3.27 miles around. It features 17 turns, a 3000' front straightaway, and a 4000' back straightaway.

The Gold Cup is now a major SVRA-sanctioned event, always guaranteed to draw world-class vintage and historic racecars. An additional attraction was that "MGVR" (the active MG Vintage Racers club) named the Gold Cup to be their 2009 "Focus Event", which meant we witnessed an especially strong contingent of MG cars. There was a special "MG vs. Morgan" feature race. Five MGB GT V8 racers were present, and we got to see a continuation of the on-track rivalry of Jerry Richards and Les Gonda!
