Been thinking about using the Fast Cars IFS.  Just curious to find out how many have installed it, and how they like it.  It will be going in to a '78 MGB roadster.

Fantastic product! Mine has nearly 40,000s miles on it. The weight savings and brakes are huge improvements. Totally adjustable is a great thing too. Perfect road manners. Would do another on the next car.
Last I heard, they had sold over 150 units worldwide.

Thank you sir, that is quite an endorsement, mostly interested in better ride and safety.

I only have 17,000 miles on mine, but I agree with everything Mike said.

Mike, wasn't yours the first one installed?

jim0899

Thanks for the reply Dan, much appreciated, it will help me convince my wife (think I will probably have to remodel the kitchen if I go for the ifs)  :)

I've got about 5000 miles on mine.

I love it.

I saved 75 pounds compared to the stock crossmember.

I spent some time with the new owners, the Sennekers, at BritishV8 and up at the UML Summer Party a couple of weeks ago....great people, just like Ted and Judy Lathrop.

Thank you for the reply Rick, and the pictures are much appreciated, more pics always a good thing.  :)  Just out of curiosity, what did you do with your old front suspension?  I was hoping someone on the site (with a pre '75) might be able to use mine.

I'll try this forum. Any Aussies fitted one or am I going to be the first?

mowog1

Jim....my old crossmember went to Pete Mantell of Mantell Motorsport.

I see you're in Florence, KY.

You need to hook up with Jim Blackwood......he's also in Florence.

Eddie Cole is in Walton, KY.

Rick, thanks for the info and picture of your ifs.  Have met Jim Blackwood but not Eddie Cole. :)
More pictures of the Fast Cars IFS installed would be much appreciated.

QuoteJust out of curiosity, what did you do with your old front suspension?

I modified my crossmember to take the Ford 302 oil pan and gave it away as a door prize at a V8 meet.

Thanks Dan, you have one beautiful car, almost a work of art.  Hope to see it in person next year.

One more question for those who have installed the Fast Cars IFS- that is; is the origional torsion bar used in congunction with the new front suspension?

rficalora

James - if you're refering to the anti-roll bar, I went to either a 3/4" or 7/8" (would need to check my notes to be sure which).

jim0899

I think I used the wrong term, after looking at the Moss Motors catalog think it is called the sway bar(you can see what I'm referring to at the top of the picture).  Just curious to find out if that was to be connected to the Fast Cars independent front suspension.

I used this photo from one that was posted online by Mike Adams, hope he doesn't mind.

Thanks Geoff,

Are you using the Fast Cars IFS?

Anti-roll bar & "sway" bar are the same thing.  They come in different diameters.  Amount of roll control goes up exponentially with diameter (e.g., 3/4" is way more 5/8" & 7/8" is way way way more).

To some degree it's personal preference.  Depending on how you dirve, you minght not be pushing through the corners hard enough to change from stock.

Here's some good info on sway bars... http://www.vikingspeedshop.com/the-truth-about-sway-bars/

Jim,
The only other thing I could add, would be to remember you need to run 15" wheels to clear the brakes.

James, yes I am with Moss 3/4 - 7/8 adjustable sway bar.

jim0899

Thanks Dan, very helpful, looks like the vertical bar from the sway bar is from the old MGB suspension.  Does that sound right?  The picture is a great help.

Jim W.  :)

jim0899

Thanks Mike and Geoff.

Question for Mike Moor, what size tires did you use on the front with the 15" wheels?

mowog1

I don't know about Mike....I'm running Goodyear Assurance 205/60-15's on Superlites.
