I took a few pictures of my mounts and motor position for Richard and anyone else interested. The motor is offset to the passenger side, which really makes everthing fit better in the bay, but I'm a little nervous about driveshaft clearance in the tunnel. I think it's going to be fine with a stock diameter shaft. The mounts were made with flat steel, some tube, angle iron and some poly bushes. I still need to clean them up a little, but they're really strong.

curious how much to the right you offset it?

It's looking good Ryan. Looks like about 1 - 1/1/4" offset or is it more? I like the set up and you're timing is perfect - I'm doing my mounts next week. Looks like you did a little tweak at the top of the firewall too.

I'll have to measure the offset, I think it's about 1". It's been so long I forget, but I think I offset the engine based on something I read on the mgcars v8 board from Bill Guzman. It will work out really well as long as the driveshaft fits. The pinion on my 8.8 rear also is offset to the right, and if I had it to do over again I definitely would center the pinion as it would result in more room in the tunnel. Pete, I doubt if the car is done for the 2009 meet, someone said "early spring" and I'll be lucky to get it done next year at all.

Tom, there is actually a lot of work done in the firewall. You can't really tell from the pictures, but the cutting wheel was busy. Here's an old pic from when I started cutting.

Thanks for the pics Ryan nice work!,I ordered some biscuit motor mounts on tuesday and started to fab the mounts,I want to go with block hugger headers and moving the mount to the front of the motor, makes room for them.?I think Leonard Marshall did a setup like that but most of his pic's are after the project was finished and it's hard to see ,he's got alot going on in the engine compart. Did you move your steering column mount outboard?Thanks again Rich

I hear you on the block hugger headers, built my own through-fender style and ended up with  bigger holes than I would've liked. The steering column mount isn't moved outboard, but I replaced the original with a rubber bumper style "cone". I don't know if I would have room in front for the mounts with the serpentine system and a/c compressor.

Richard, note that Leonard moved his motor way back 6-8" if I recall -- completely cutting out the heater shelf area.  In addition to moving the weight back, it also puts it where the frame rails are wider so there's more room for the block huggers.  If your motor is further forward like Ryan or I've done, you may still not have room for block huggers unless you make them or have them made with some of that flattended oval tubing & bends.

Ryan, did I read that you're doing the stock crossmember with balancer in front of the rack?

Me again, I did go back can't say how many inchs but the sawzall was working overtime and yes it has room where the frame spreads out,and with a new mount for the steering rack I even got my steering shaft to fit in between the headers, I'm using summit block huggers and they fit just fine here's a couple of pic's

Yep, stock chrome bumper x-member, of course notched out for oil pan clearance. Balancer is in front of the rack.
