Merkur XR4Ti rear end fits?

Does anyone know how feasible it would be to swap a Merkur XR4Ti independant rear end into an MG? David hardcastle just finished a TR7V8 conversion with one and loves it. If it will fit under a TR8, I would think it would fit a "B". David's has discs and posi-traction.

We missed you & Sue very much.  You may (or not) know, the TR7/8 is quite bit wider than a B.

The one question I have is "Why"?  Why would you use components that were originally in very limited supply and now almost non-existant for your car when there are numerous other IRS systems around that offer much more in the area of being able to maintain it and choose gear ratios.

This is the same IRS that is used in the UK under the Ford Sierra and Ford Granada/Scorpio.
Hoyle also use the same Diff and related parts under their IRS set up. (See Larry Shimp's Car)

It's small and light weight, but parts could be scare unless imported.

You may want to consider the Ford 8.8 IRS from a T-Bird or Lincoln mk8?

Kurt, it should be possible to make the 8.8 work by removing one or both battery boxes. (If you use the aluminum housing and stock pinion mount the opposite box from late model B can be retained) If you want to go that route I have some parts I'll give you, including the alloy diff housing and boots Pete gave me, another diff with 3.08 gears, various parts including partial half shaft assemblies (spiders are missing) control arms and sub frame, *and* two waterjet cut blanks for custom uprights, designed to move the suspension points out inside the rims and move the brakes inboard. They have not been machined but are designed to accept the ford spindle bearings and control arm bushings so they have enough meat for just about any type of attachment you might want to use. (also the stock uprights) Let me know if you want the parts.
