Did a compression test on my stroked Olds 215, not good. #4 cylinder at 50 lbs.

John at the machine shop says I need new valves and seals. He's not seeing them specifically at his normal sources. Where have you guys got new valves for the Olds 215 head? He says they look stock and have a single groove for keepers

Scott, those valves are rare, but TA has slightly larger  64 300 IN valves and 65-67 300 EX valves that will work for the stock seats. They use stock 11 degree keepers and my guess is your beehive springs have 10 degree retainers. Jon's motor had 7 degree retainers and we couldn't get them off and went to Z28/LT1 springs and Comp Cams 11 degree retainers.  You want him to cut the guides for Viton seals and leave the little coil springs off the exhaust seals. We also used bronze valve guide liners.

TA shows both the stock valves for 215 and the 300 version. They don't stock them and cant give an estimate on delivery due to the back order status. I'm surprised that everything else is available but the valves are scarce.

mgb260

The 300 valves are .095 longer than the 215 and you would need different pushrods. Olds 215 IN valve is same as Buick 215 but EX is larger than 64 300 but smaller than 65-67 300.

Another alternative is new valve seats for your valves. Alex's Part's has them and your machinist would know what size he would need:

Egge Machine Co may have new valves but will be expensive. Their website seems to be down.

How goes ?  If not done, use $50. 3.5 block. quick hone, assemble, run. Happy ever after.

Will Rover 3.5 valves work? They are available thru The wedge Shop. Their listing states they work on all of the rover variants.

mgb260

They are the same as the Buick 215 and may on the IN, but the Olds EX valves are larger diameter. Ask your machinist maybe new IN valves and new seats for the EX. Rimmer would have the best prices on IN valves. Call Egge Machine Co on EX valves?

Egge machine has a few valves, not a complete set. But, they manufacture valves and can do that for approx $500. Could take a month to get those.  That's an option but not a cheap one. Rimmer Bros website sucks and the're closed so dont know what they can provide. TWS are suppose to call me back, but it looks like they'll have the intake ones.

mgb260

My link above shows Rimmer IN valves for 3.5 Rover @ $11.70 each where Egge and the Wedge shop are around $30 each. Here it is again:

Larger than stock EX:

Larger than stock IN:

If it was me, I'd get the larger IN and EX which are the biggest you can go with the stock seats. Basically 300 Buick diameters.

Sometimes it's possible to find a valve that uses different keepers or is long enough to trim to length and cut new keeper grooves. Likely to be a more expensive option but sometimes not. Something to keep in mind.

The valve tips are not the same as mine. Machinist says they wont work.

The intake has the double grooves. Unfortunately we don't know where these valves came from.

mgb260

Definitely not stock, stock would be the same as Rover. .Have him measure the head diameters. Olds stock are around 1.50 IN and 1,36 EX. The rover valves will work with the right 11 degree keepers and retainers like Jon used, If the head diameters are larger than stock you can use new larger seats and 1.74 IN and 1.5 EX from Ford 2.3  SOHC Pinto like I did years ago on 300 heads .Jim B, it is hard to find other valves unless you go larger.

An article on here used these valves and seats:

Pontiac Iron Duke four  1.72 IN and Manley P/N 11667-4 Volkswagen 38mm (1.496) stainless steel EX valves. The larger valves will require new seats, such as Precision PC1500-31 (exhaust) and PC1750-39 (intake),

I'll look them up and see if the keeper slots match. Hard telling what previous owner did.

John said the conical springs i have  aren't stock and I'm assuming they may need to be changed with the diff valves??

We originally wanted Z28 springs which are good replacement for stock. Previous owner had heads cut for larger diameter beehive springs so the machine shop went with 70 Camaro LT1 springs and Comp Cams 11 degree retainers with stock Buick/Rover keepers .I'll send you links. Probably your best bet.
