302 Engine mounts

I spent the weekend making motor mounts. After working 2 days I ended up cutting them off because the engine just sat too high. I was using the method of channel stock and a pancake rubber mount. To get the engine where i want it the frame the connections would have to be welded to the front cross member instead of the frame.
 Any articles or advice on an easy mounting system?

I used some 1 3/4" dom tube and poly bushings - 3" long. Flat stock for brackets. My motor is set pretty low.
