What is the most HP a mgb motor has produced?? I looked on line and there is a guy claiming that his 100 and something horsepower motor was the most. But my old auto cross motor put out 210 hp on a engine dyno. it had 11.5 to 1 ratio, h-beam rods, some cam that was in the motor when I got it, bigger valves and lots of head porting.

I don't know the answer to your question. I do know there are all sorts of ways to make power. Nitrous? Trick fuel? Forced induction? To me, none of these are as sensible as simply adding displacement.

This is almost certainly the most powerful MGB 1800cc engine that's currently featured on BritishV8:

This is a "before" picture. After our friend Todd blew it to pieces, he replaced it with a Nissan engine. Details here:  http://www.britishv8.org/MG/ToddBudde.htm

Have you been checking out the new "BritishRaceCar.com" site? (You can get to it easily from the "Photo Gallery" menu above.)  I'm preparing an article now about the very famous and hugely successful Al Pease MGB, which was raced from 1964 with a great big supercharger. I don't know, but I figure it certainly ought to be the most powerful 1.8L MGB in road racing. Here's a sneak peak:

I thought so. I didn't put alot of work in my motor and it made 210 on motor. I figured there had to be others that took it even further, I love the v8s in Bs but there is nothing like a really angry mowog mill there so much fun. Thanks Curtis for sharing.

Your 210 is a good output for sure. I dont' know about max output on an 1800 but some SCCA racers were getting well over 150hp from a 1622 MGA engine. I'd check with some of the SCCA engine builders such as Hap Waldrop over on the MG Experience motorsports forum for a more difinitive answer. http://www.mgexperience.net/

Well, every dyno is different. I think Hap would tell you that dyno is handing out some very generous numbers. My understanding is you'd have to be turning close to 9 grand to be producing 200 HP with a normally aspirated MGB engine & a much higher compression ratio.

What I want to know is, what do you do to the motor to get that kind of HP out of it?

First off attend to the bottom end magnaflux the crank and main caps, then upgrade the rods,  h-beams are preferred but some ibeam upgrades are available from England. The stock head can accept bigger valves and extenvise porting I ported the center port to the point were I was in the waterjacket and welded in a oval piece of tubing and then brazed to seal it and followed with smoothing of course I modified my center tube in my header with a larger diameter tube to accept the larger port, the head can take alot of decking also.  The best choice is to go with a cross flow head. I also upgraded with ARP fasteners.  There are a number of cams that can be bought also a few places do custom grinds depending on the compression and rpm capability from the motor also if it will be forced or naturally aspirated .  I found lightening the valve train helped alot. Also full blueprinting and balancing is necessary the stock crank has alot of variation. I also used forged vanolia coated pistons with a stock top ring and a total seal secondary ring. I was going to do roller rockers an trunions but I sold the race car to a man from California.  Thats it in a nut shell

Did you bore it out or have to keep the cylinders stock size due to being a race car (to stay in class)?

I have seen a few heads on e bay and with Moss and a few other places. Seen the roller rockers on e bay as well and another place. I have seen a few diferent carb setups.

I will have to make a header to get it to fit into what i am thinking of using it in (Morris Minor PU).

Where did the rods come from? Camshaft recomendations? Pistons?

I will be using this as a street motor, no racing and naturally aspirated..

Thanks

210 BHP?

I either want your dyno, or whatever it is your dyno guy had been smoking.

No MGB engine with those specs would be anywhere near that at the flywheel.
