P.J. just pulled a "Curtis" with the Roadmaster at Milepost 51 on Interstate 57 in southern Illinois.

Oops.

A minor setback as he waits for some AAA gasoline.

What no can of gas in the back?!  ;)

The nearest service center wanted $80 + one dollar a mile + cost of the gas. Boy was I glad when an IL state trooper stopped and offered to take me to the next exit (3 Miles) to buy a gas can and a gal of gas.  He , the trooper, liked the Roadmaster asked a bunch of questions and said he probably  not catch it.  I told him a keep it under a 100 on the interstates so he could catch me, he laughed.  He never said anything about the speed limit.  Here is a photo to cheer one up after an interesting day in the life of a Roadmaster jockey.

I'm home in Winston-Salem, NC
Thanks to Rick and Jean for splendid hospitality.
Despite the hiccups Roadmaster did do over 800 miles from TX to IL averaging 15.5 MPG and was admired at every stop along the way.  I was assisted by state trooper during the roadside breakdowns and they all liked the car.  One even said that he doubted he could catch it in a chase. And NO SPEEDING tickets, YEAH!!!
I enjoyed my time in the roadmaster. And now we know it's got a new airbag and a new fuel pump. I'm sure Rick and friends will be able to sort out the other little issues. I would be willing to drive RM for another leg of it's tour of the lower 48 states; but I don't know about that Hawaiian tunnel. But first I've got to let my credit card cool off, it nearly overheated this week.
We have family in California, should I deliver Roadmaster to you Bill??

Got my new Oct 12 Hot Rod magazine in the mail.  It's got a ton of pictures from the Power Tour.

Didn't see the Roadmaster.  Am I blind?

BlownMGB-V8

Apparently SOMEBODY is.

I was contacted by HR Magazine for additional pictures.

Apparently they were not interested.

I towed the Roadmaster from Mt.Vernon, IL to Saing Joseph, IL where it now resides in my barn.

It will not start; the air bag suspension drops within 4 to 6 hours or so.

Time needed for diagnosis/fixes.

Rick, the air was going down on me, but nowhere near as fast as you're seeing.  I was loosing about 5 psi every few days.  I did pull the hose off at the valve back by the pump to show PJ how to fill it with an air hose if needed.  Maybe I didn't research the hose fully?  That'd be the first place I'd look anyway.

BlownMGB-V8

I'd start with the fitting on the new air bag, the check valve, and making sure there are no side loads on the tube going into the gage and bleeder valve. Those are the most likely suspects. I remove, pressurize, dunk, then wait and watch for any bubbles. The goal is Zero.

Also, the new airbag was installed with a standard hex pipe bushing I believe. This moves the fitting down and causes a side load in the hose and fitting which probably causes a leak. It might be possible to drill a couple of holes in the face of the headless bushing that is in the original air bag and remove it with a pin spanner so it could be reused. I don't think I have any of them left in stock so if you need one we'll have to see about putting in an order.

What was the name and address you guys wanted me to send the T-shirt to? We have 2 large and 1 medium left, I figured I'd send a large but I've lost the address.

Jim

OK That is one, Rick helped me with it. Had to send a large and there is one large and one medium left. I'll bring those to Townsend. Package should arrive on Thursday.

Bill:

What is the schedule of events for the car so far--- when does it need to be where this year, at least for the next 2-3 months?

Thx.

O-kay.

I've seen No response to the LAST question.

How about THIS one:

Any interest in the Roadmaster making it to the BMTA conference?

M

BlownMGB-V8

Didn't even know about BMTA but it seems like our sponsors would want the car there,

Jim

Went out for some more visiting today between the rain storms.  The cop stopped by to see the car, I was not racing through Jonestown NC.

PJ:

Glad you took it back to Jack's!    Did he like it?  Did you give him a chance to drive it?  :-)

M

Max,
Jack (aka twig) was full of praise about RM and he did drive around the route 221 section near Grandfather mountain, a fine piece of road for a sports car.

Jack's friend is the connection at the High School.  The kids liked the car, but not all of them knew what a carb was, only a few knew of the MG.  Most took photos and texted them.

The car is running very well.  Climbing from N Wilkesboro to the Blue Ridge Parkway did not require downshifting!  That's a long steep grade with two truck turn-out sand piles on the downhill lane.
