Just a comment on whether to use reg or premium gas.  I have run fuel milage tests on my mgb and found that it is actually cheaper to run premium fuel.  More miles per $ spent.   I did tune the engine and carbs to almost every tank of gas for a while, just for grins.  It may not make a lick of difference with that big ol engine.     bash

Makes sense on an engine running higher compression where the timing can be used to gain power, but I don't think our compression is high enough to make much difference.

UPDATE...

After PJ delivers the Roadmaster to Illinois, I will be taking it to Michigan for its Appearance To The Purists at the UML Summer Party Reunion (August 17-19). This should be interesting.

I'll bring it back to Illinois and showcase it for a couple more weeks; I may be able to get it up to the Chicago area for the all-British show (600 cars or so) in Palatine on September 9th.

Dave Kirkman will be picking it up mid-September to take it over to Indianapolis for several Cars and Coffees as well as Indy British Motor Days (200 cars or so). I'm trying to talk him into getting it to Saint Louis for the all-British show (150 cars or so)there on September 29. (Bill Young....maybe you can coordinate with Dave for this meet???)

Here is the link for The British Auto Show hosted by the St.Louis MG Club  Sat 9/15/12.  .http://www.stlouismgclub.com/

The show is held in a beautiful public park, with a lake and lots of shade trees.. There is a meet and greet Barbecue the day before.  (bring a coverd dish) or not.  I believe there were 4 MGB V8s there last year,  All British autos are represented at this show.

Let me know if I can help anyone make arrangements to attend this show.

Travel to Houston tomorrow morning looks good, if all goes according to plan the Roadmaster should be northeast bound on Friday morning 8-10-12.  Plan to arrive at Rick's on Sunday.

Have a safe trip PJ.  Just in time for a little cool down.

PJ called this morning - he made the flight (flying space available) so will be here around 10am.  Highs around 90 today but we have even higher than normal humidity - "feels like" temp will be 105 according to accuweather so won't feel like a cool down.  PJ will have to wait till he gets way north for that!

I am visiting Rob now and will get an early start in the morning

Will welcome him with a cold beverage of his choice.

Safe travels, P.J.

My roadtrip started off well.  After a very nice visit with Rob and Shelly I made it thru Houston before dawn and beat the traffic north bound on Texas 59. After about 200 miles of fun driving, the air bag on the passenger side failed and the whole front end dropped several inches.  Fortunately I was quite close to Cheshire's auto and truck repair.  A new bag has been  overnighted, but they don't deliver to Carthage,TX on Saturdays. I just spoke with  David Breedlove from Shrevepor, LA, found him in the Namgbr mutual aid directory.
Since there is no Sat delivery in Carthage ,  David as offered to receive the air bag package and bring it to Carthage.  If all goes well I'll continue my trip tomorrow afternoon.
What a great support group, thanks to all you guys!

Posted an update on the roadmaster thread, meant to post it here...

Just talked with PJ. Repair is complete. He's going to grab some lunch and hit the road. David, if you're out there, thanks again for handling receipt of the Fed-Ex and courrier service! You saved the day!

mowog1

I just got an e-mail from PJ...he is indeed on the road!

rficalora

He sent a text message at about 5pm central - said he was in Arkansas.  I like getting the updates but I'll admit it feels a bit like 'where's Waldo'.

mowog1

He's most likely travelling the route that Jean and I took to Palestine.

I-40 to I-55 to I-57 to I-74 to Saint Joseph.

Carthage is about 12 hours from Saint Joseph; Little Rock about 8 hours; Memphis about 6 hours; Cairo (IL) about 3&1/2 hours.

I anticipate PJ arriving here late morning to mid-afternoon on Sunday.

mowog1

PJ is currently dining in Little Rock...he has good company, as you can see.

He will be overnighting in Forrest City, AR before continuing his journey.

Over-nighting in Brinkley, AR , after a late start, 2:20 pm, due to the repairs.  Drove until dark.  Another 467 miles tomorrow will get me to St. Joseph.  I plan to start by 7:00 am.
Alls well with Waldo and with Roadmaster
