I am looking for tie rods for my MGB that are 1.5 " longer than the standard ones. Does anybody know if they exist and where to find them. The steering rack had to be moved forward in order to clear the pulie so I need longer tie rods. Any other suggestions ?
Not for applicable in this forum but the MGB will get a twin cam 2 liter MGA engine ! Not something that's been done before.
I read somewhere that MG factory had plans th install the twin cam engine in the "B" but with the bad reputation of their twin cam engine the plans were scrapped. Most of these engines came over to the USA in the late 50's but most were scrapped.

I was surfing for racing parts he other day and saw tie rod extenders.  Might be just the ticket if you can match the threads.

Hoyle Emgineering in England sells tie rod extenders that fit the MGB.

Wouldn't that affect the Ackerman?

Hi Larry,
Thanks for the info. I know Hoyle very well, I bought his front end suspension to go on my "B". Nice piece. I like his IRS also but it is a bit pricey for my budget.
This tie rod is for a friend of mine that is modifying his B to twin cam. I'll see if I can post some pics of the project on the forums.

I'd say make your own, just get a length of DOM thick wall tubing and drill and tap it to size then screw in a grade 8 stud into one end and use a jamb nut on both sides. No reason that shouldn't work as an extender and be safe. Use locktite to make sure nothing comes loose, you can always apply a bit of heat to loosen the lock tite if you need to remove the extender for any reason.

I like Jim B's question,"change akerman" ? If your lengthening to keep up with track width increase is one thing..... This is a front steer ? If changing top veiw angle of arms=akerman change, will still clear inside of rim ? Cheers, roverman.
