Found a 74.5 GT within 30 miles of me, seller was not really advertising it for sale, I heard about it from a friend. Went and looked at it Saturday, made an offer and it was accepted! I guess I'll go pick it up next weekend. Here's a couple of pics. It's a 74.5, built in Oct 1974, has a blue label OD, A/C, wire wheels, HIF's, extremely little rust (a few bubbles at the fender bead between the drivers side fender and cowl panel, see pic). Interior is in really decent shape, body is in great shape. It's been in a garage since 1995, tires even still aired up!

Good job!  You'll be able to sell that O/D unit without much difficulty!

Looks to be a "Citron" colour.

My 74-1/2 was Tundra.

I also just picked up a 74-1/2 but a roadster. Solid body but rough, came from Oklahoma. Aconite.

I would have loved this one to be Aconite. Looks good on a MGB GT, IMO

Its unusual to have wires on a rubber bumper car. Or at least it is unusual over here. If I remember correctly rubber bumper GTs are rare in the US because they were taken off the price list some time after the TR7 was launched.

What is Aconite?  Sounds like a carbon-based material, so I am guessing Gray?

Its like criptonite but more powerful. It comes in a dark purple colour.

Wire wheels remained an option for the MGB throughout the production of the car.

There are indeed very few rubber bumpered MGBs to be found equipped as such as most were sold with Rostyles.

There were about 1250 of the 1974-1/2 MGB/GTs (rubber bumper, raised ride height, still had dual HIF4s) delivered to the North American market before the sale of the GT was discontinued on this side of the pond.

Yes...Acconite is a shade of purple....more purple than Black Tulip.

The colour Citron is also fairly rare.....but I can see where one would consider changing to a more appealing colour. <grin>

Um... well Rick, it's really too early to tell yet but one idea we were kicking around was to fit it with some sort of a Zero Point or magnetic motor and campaign it in the Chump Car series. Since it's an endurance race not having to stop for fuel would give us an edge. Jon (the seller) said he thought aconite on a 74-1/2 US market RD was unusual, think there's anything to that?

GOOD! Whew, that's a relief. I was worried I'd have to keep it purple due to scarcity. I never really liked purple very much myself, much rather have red or something. But Rick's and Mike's and Steve's cars all look really good I've got to say. Good thing cars are different from bikes. A buddy of mine painted his bike purple and couldn't figure out why guys were coming on to him. When someone finally told him he was sorta pissed, since he likes the color. I don't know how much truth there is to that story, but that was how he told it.

Anyway the car's in the shed for now. Maybe next fall I'll get around to doing something with it. Hmmm, I know where I could probably get a 430 BBB short block....

Wow even has AC fitted!

Got to look at it good tonight. The body is completely solid.. Could find no rust anywhere except where noted above, at the drivers side fender to cowl beading. Just a few bubbles there. I went over the entire car with a magnet and found only one spot at the bottom rear of the pass side door that the magnet didn't adhere as strong as the rest. And it was only about the size of a baseball. I took the floor mats out and pulled up the carpet and found nice yellow paint and solid floors, top and bottom. I was expecting to find some rust somewhere... but this car is very solid! I'm really pleased with everything I found, looks like a good keeper!! Even found this under the floor in the back...could it be original? Says 7.35x14, 4 full plies fiberglass, Mohawk Strato Chief. The only negative I've found it the Moto-Lita steering wheel leather is falling apart...

Trey-You can get a steering wheel from Summit that is a direct replacement. Motolita and LeCarrera are the same and they have it for $144.00.

Nice car!       Were the factory mods to firewall made on this model for the v8?

From what I've been told, Yes the firewall needs no mods for the V8. It's definitely set back more than my CB 74 Roadster firewall.
