Can someone weigh in on the relative merits of using a splined steering shaft vs a Double D type?

Geoff, I'm sure others, more knowledgeable than I, will have differing opinions, but I've used both in street rod applications and the only real advantage I see in splined shafts is clock ability giving you a little better selection when aligning the components.  There may be some strength difference but I doubt input from the road, or you, is enough to make much of deference.  As I say, we've used both and haven't had problems with either one.  We do however use quick release steering wheels that are splined giving us back the clock ability when we use DD.

Thx Paul. I've decided to have a splined shaft fabricated. The ease of just cutting a DD to length was tempting though.

I'm using splined on mine too.
