Im in the begining stages of installing a motor and trans from a 1984 bmw 318i. Its a SOHC 1.8 Litre M10 with a 5 speed Gettrag Trans. Once i get the motor and trans to actually fit and mounted up then im going to try to squeeze a t3 turbo in there. Then I want to upgrade the brakes, sys, etc to make it drive on rails. Wish me luck!!!

Getting the old trans out was easy work

After this I took this pic I pulled the motor and trans for the 100th time. I ended up cutting out the battery/heater core tray so i could move the motor and trans back to make the odd shaped oil pan fit between the control arm and the leg tunnel. Its also going to make a the car more even with weight distribution to help with handleing. Once the motor and trans are in place and get mounted up im going to make a new battery tray thats a little higher up to clear the tranny.

The new motor and trans is a pain in the @ss to squeze in because its a slant 4. The odd shaped oil pan is a nightmare so far because it sits right over the frame rail. On the other side of the motor fitting the headers and the t3 turbo will be fun. The firewall/leg tunnel will need to be hacked away to squeeze the header in and it wont effect leg room, but I had to open up the tranny tunnel but cutting some of the firewall away and you lose a little leg room but its a race car so its not supposed to be comfortable...right?
