Just bought this today. You have to love the '80's for the styling! Rebuilt 10K km ago, Vitesse pistons, performance cam, Pertronix ignition, runs sweet. My better half thinks I should just fix/clean it up and sell it. Inner voice is already seeing another B conversion (which is the real reason for purchase). PO has had it for 14 years. Anyone have an idea what SD1's are worth fixed/cleaned up?

Simon,

You should have taken the badges off and told her it was a four door Ferrari Daytona!
Is it solid and running, it does look like the fan belt is indide out.

Kevin Jackson.

Hi Kevin,

Yep, it's all there.  PO has looked after it pretty well.  No serious holes, surface rust, nothing structural.  Interior is faded and torn, panels are time-expired.  Might look into an interior kit just out of curiousity.  Quite a different car from my V8 MGB, understandably.  Don't know much about the SD1 as to build-quality but apparently it's a beautiful-riding car and great on long distances.  I think I'll certainly hang onto it for a while and get my GT finished and then see what to do with it.

How's things going with your latest project?

Cheers

When I first looked at the first photo ,I thought it was a Reliant Scimiter , the headlights look just like one ,the UK cars had 2 square ones. You dont see many on the roads over here ,they have all rusted away.

Simon,

The new engine build is moving along and we should be doing a test build in the next week or so.

The SD1 looks a nice project, I have a few links which may be of help.

Good sites, Kevin.  I'll have a look around.

As for the lights, I seem to recall back in the early 80's, the "Euro-style" lights were illegal over on this side of the pond so that might explain the four round ones.  Of course, 20-odd years later, they're all the rage!

I hope y'all will forgive me for moving this thread into the "Other British Cars" section.

I'm hoping this section takes off and gets real busy!

I wonder how many Scimitars ever made it to North America. Couldn't have been but a few, but I see them mentioned a lot in old British car magazines. (Apparently they were pretty competitive with the Ford Capri, no?) Do people ever hot-rod them?

No problem, Curtis.  I was thinking I may have put it in the wrong section after I posted it.  Force-of-habit to go to the MGB section.
