I am trying to remove the steering wheel on my 79 B to replace the turn signal, horn hi/low beams switch. Do you know a way to get the steering wheel off then replace again?

Citron

I don't know about the 79 but my 70 and 74 don't require steering wheel removal to chane the turn signal switch.

Same here on '76 you'd just remove the plastic shroud between the steering wheel & dash.  I'd think the 79 is the same but not sure.

Just remove the cowling and then you can access the turn signal switch.Remove the 2 screws and the clamp...replace your switch. One thing if you decide to remove the wheel anyway DO NOT use the loosen the nut and hit it with a hammer while pulling on the wheel method. This has a very good chance of collapsing the steering column. This is a safety feature for when your body hits the wheel in a crash, the column collapses to absorb some of the force.
Steering wheel removers can be made easily or bought or rented. They are worth it, I collapsed my column and now have an ugly repair to do.

Jim, you may have to loosen the mounting bolts for the column and allow it to drop a bit to get access to the screws in the cowl. Once those are removed the cowl should split and slide up over the stalks on either side.
