Carry A Fire Extinguisher

I had a "small" engine fire in the Healey (caused by a leaking fuel filter and in the words of Jimmy Buffett, And I know it's my own damn fault") I saw the flames through the hood louvers and as I had an extinguisher on the tunnel, I was able to grab it, shoot through the louvers to knock it down and open the hood to get to the rest of it.  Still, cooked the wiring harness, burned some interior carpet, wrecked the hood paint, etc., etc., but didn't damage the shroud paint nor warped the hood.  Lots to do now. I'm insured, but finding someone to do the work on a modified car isn't simple so I'm doing some of it myself. Engine and tranny are out and it will give me a chance to put in some headers, so it's not all bad.  Message is make sure you carry an extinguisher and make it a Halotron so you don't have the same cleanup mess I did.

Definitely a good reminder.  Also have the fire extinguisher visibly accessible.  Something I need to improve

Good point on accessibility.  Mine was on the tunnel and sure helped in getting to it quickly:

Sorry that happened to you!  I have one.  Need to double check whether it's still good as it's been in the car for about 10 years.
