Swapmeet core kinda thing. I would "like" to use as a hi-volume water pump. How crazy is this ? Should move LOTS of water-right ?  Thanks, art.

That's pretty far out in left field Art, you might want to bring it in a bit. Not that it won't work but air and water are a lot different when you start talking about moving that much of it. Big water pumps are almost always centrifugal because it is a lot more efficient to use the weight of the water to move it than to physically displace it. Turbulence and cavitation problems are bound to crop up, and the housing is not made to stand up to that kind of abuse. Neither are the drive gears. Yes, it'll work, and if you were on a desert island and that's all you had to work with it'd be brilliant. But...

This is a really, REALLY bad idea.

Air is compressible, water is not.  You will note that the clearances in a water pump are MUCH larger than in a lobe-style compressor. Water pumps are typically centrifugal or screw type, not positive displacement like a lobe-style blower.  Try to pump water through this and the broken parts and carnage will be impressive.  Please video the attempt.

Ok, It needs to be in a movie and then the "impossible science team"  will attempt to duplicate ?

If you want a roots style water pump, I would look at dry sump pumps.

Some of the high dollar brands (Daley engineering, I think amongst others).

Of course those are dealing with partial flows, part oil, part air and whatever combustion gasses are in the crankcase, so I'm unsure how that would work without the compressible nature of the scavenge flows.

Would a gerotor or vane pump better fit your application?

They are already liquid pumps.

Is there a specific engine speed range you are looking for more flow?

Flow Kooler makes pumps that are better at low speed.

I forget if it's Mezeire or CSR,  but they make a high pressure belt drive water pump, you could run one in addition to the stock water pump, in series for more pressure, in parallel for more volume, depending on what you're after.

Of course you could run any external pump that way as well.
