Well, my winter plans went into the crapper last Tuesday. Took a header from about six feet onto the deck of a boat, breaking my left humerus and badly bruising some ribs.  Just getting used to sleeping in a recliner, very hard to lay down right now.  Consuming a lot of painkillers but the pain is easing up a bit each day.
I bought a highly modified MGB v6 as salvage a few weeks ago and had plans to pull it apart over the winter, add some choice parts to my car and sell off some very good bits.  Looks like a spring job now.  Going to be  a very long winter!  ;- (

Sorry to hear about broken bones but glad you are  a survivor.  Take it easy and hope to see you in Townsend in May

BlownMGB-V8

Ouch!
You can't be doing that stuff Phil. Not these days.

Hey, s..t happens.
Just how come it always happens to us?
On the bright side. If you live to laugh about it. It makes good story material for the grand kids.
Take it easy and get better soon.
BTW recliners and scotchy scotch go together well.

Live like you mean it.

Maybe not a good tale for the kids Fred,,,,,, Phil has,nt really let on HOW it happened LOL  hope you mend OK  tho Phil.

QuoteIt makes good story material for the grand kids.

I've learned the hard way - it's not a good idea to regale your grandkids with tales of daring-do from your youth. It'll come back to bite you when you try to tell them what they're wanting to do is not a good idea. "But, Grandpa, when you were my age...."

Hope you're up and healed soon, Phil. See you in Townsend.

MGBV8

Glad you are on the mend, Phil.  We are getting too old to take hits like that.

Phil, I just knew Jean Gagnes wrecked 4.3 would bring back luck...4.3's are cursed....seriously sorry to hear of your accident and hope you are feeling better soon!
PS....the big drawback to bruised ribs is that they only hurt when you laugh!

ex-tyke

Breaking a humerus is no laughing matter!....after a few Mooseheads (or whatever you guys drink out there during Winter) and after emerging from your igloo in the Spring, you'll be fit enough to shift your way down to Tennessee..

Charles

When I read the bit about ribs, I quit breathing. You can do without the arm, the breathing is needed, it seems that we breathe way to slow and deep. You will soon learn to breathe at about 200 BPM and very shallow, if you haven't already.
I can truely feel for you.  Mend quickly.

Christine?

Sorry about the accident, sounds painful.

britcars

Thanks for the good wishes folks.   Pain is easing but still not comfortable and sleeping in a recliner.  Drugs can be a great thing sometimes.  :-)
Have considered a few judicious slugs of alcohol...maybe on the weekend when I taper off some of the drugs. Got a bit of Moosehead in the garage fridge and a few Iceberg Beer that I got from the Quidi Vidi Brewery in Newfoundland last summer, got a bit of rum as well (never took to scotch) and in an emergency, George Dickel is available here as well.

kstevusa

"Right On, George DIckel"! You'll feel better, take the Elixir of Life!     Moosehead in adequate quantity to flush
kidneys :-)   Get well soon,Phil

DiDueColpi

You're right Rick.
Could be Christine II,
It's not wrecked. It just looks pissed off and ready to go at it again!
Phil, you have beer from last summer?!!!!

Charles

Let me think here, help me out. You were diving from the boat into the water and missed.  I am thinking the water there might be getting a bit chilly, so maybe it was, the Moosehead, Iceberg, or the rum that caused you to think the water was fine and then as you dove you and missed the water.

By the way I have a spare driver park/running lens, looks like you may be a little damaged. I could bring it to Townsend in May.

britcars

Not that complicated Charles.  I actually dove from the transom seat onto the deck of the boat while it was sitting on the trailer.  A matter of getting my feet tangled after climbing aboard over the swim platform.  No alcohol involved although it might have eased the pain until I got to the hospital.  The complicated part was figuring out how I going to get out of the boat and into the truck with one arm and drive the 15 miles to the hospital. :-)
Thanks for the parking light offer but it would take more than that!  Bought the car as salvage.  The only body panel useable is the trunk lid but the car has some very nice stuff including a very hot 4.3L v6, Costello Frontline suspension, 3:07 Quaife limited slip, roll bar, Doug Jackson composite rear springs and traction bars, VDO Pilot gauges and 14 x 6 Saab wheels with like new Sumitomo tires.
The plan was to dismantle the car this fall........................won't be until late Jan/Feb at the earliest now.

I've been absent from this site and just saw your post today hope you get well soon!

Charles

How is our stunt diver doing? I do hope all is on mend, so you can get back to doing what we all enjoy.

britcars

Thanks for the thoughts Charles.
Went back to the hospital last week to see the orthopedic doctor and am progressing well.  The three fractures seem to be healing OK, back to the bone doc on Dec 4th. If things look good then I should be able to get rid of this sling and get at some physiotherapy.
Still having some discomfort but no real pain but am sleeping in a recliner.  Our son was here last week to tow the boat on to Newfoundland, took the time to tidy the garage to make room for the MGB (my blue driver) and put to bed for the winter.  The green monster will have to wait for a few months before I start the de-construction.

Hope your well on the road to recovery without any setbacks.. Best wishes for the holidays.  Jim

britcars

Jim, thanks for thinking of me.
I'm doing well, still wearing a sling sometimes but doing physiotherapy and getting more range of motion back in my shoulder. Probably another month before I can do too much in the garage though.  Pam is a bit relieved too, no more need for help in the shower and I can now pull up my own underwear and pants!  :-)
Merry Christmas to you and Peg.
