Radiator Fan Controller

Was out driving the MGB and noticed my electric fan didnt always come on when the engine got warm. I am using a Hayden adjustable controller and it seems to be a piece of crap! This is my 2nd failure in 500 miles.

Need some suggestions on a good controller. I would like something adjustable.

I have never used one but Davies Craig has had good reviews and the latest version can control an electric water pump as well. The clever bit is that it can do away with the thermostat and control the engine temperature automatically.

I am using one from Dakota Digital, has several nice functions. It is their PAC-2750, I am controlling a Volvo S70 two speed fan with the Volvo relay unit. I also control the low speed fan to come on with the A/C. I have setup through the ECM to idle the engine up to about 1100 rpm so all of the fans runs at max speed. No over heating while sitting for 2 hours in 97 degrees with the A/C on waiting for Military procession to pass in 2015 here in Chattanooga. OBTW I have a GM 3.4 V6 FI

Charles. ordered a Dakota Digital today. seems like a good balance between quality and price. The reviews are excellent and your comentary put it over the top for me.

I use a BMW temp sender that has two temp switches in it. One sender controls turning the fan on low & high. Not quite as good as the high end controllers that adjust the speed of the fan based on temp, but simple & works if you have a multi-speed fan. Only issue was it's an M14 thread so I had to tap a fitting for it.

The Dakota digital controller worked great! I did have to order their sending unit since I am using the stock MGB temp gauge. I like the adjustability and it was easy to set up. Only problem was that it has to be mounted inside the cockpit of the car, but that was only a small issue.

Brian Baskin's Delta Current Controller - pulse width varies the fan speed to maintain a constant stable coolant temp which you can set, it slowly speeds up as needed rather than pulling a lot of current to go full speed.
I also have the LED on my dash that tells me what the fan is doing - it changes color depending whether the fan is off (green) at partial speed (orange), and full speed (red), along with a dial that lets me adjust the set temperature that I want to maintian the coolant at - the DCC does the rest.

As Rob noted above, the D.C.C. is the real deal. I installed 1 on my conversion in 2005 and it is still going. Brian has made several improvements over the years , but this is 1 great controller. Google Delta Current Control ans see what he has available.

Use that to also control an electric water pump, ditch the thermostat, and you might have a real slick temp control system. But I wonder if convection current would keep it from warming up in the winter.
