Bell Housing for T5

I am sizing up my SBC and T5 tranny on my TR6. One think that does not appeal to me is how the T5 is cocked or tilted when I mate the tranny to the engine. Obviously, I need to change my bell housing.  I have read how some who used a T5 used the bell housing from an s10.

Does or has anyone come across this and how was it resolved.

Thanks

Art, The S10 won't work as it is a V6 bellhousing but, any old Saginaw,Muncie,BWT10 or even 3 speed SBC will. Also look very close and you may be surprised to see the straight up pattern on your bellhousing that isn't drilled. Then you need the straight up S10(can be modified for short throw with stops) or aftermarket Mustang(modified bolt pattern) shifter. Oh yeah, the angled spacer for the transmission mount.

Thanks Jim.  Just to carify. If I use a bell housing from a 350 SB camaro it will mate with the T5 correct?  Also, the striahgt up S10 is the shifter correct.  Why do I need an angle spacer for the tranny?

Yes on the bellhousing, yes on the s10 shifter, unscrew the top extension. The mount on the t5 was angled to be straight while the shifter was bent towards driver. You can also bend the crooked Camaro shifter to work. I did the short shift mod in this link, plus drilled and threaded for stop bolts like the aftermarket shifters.

Which T5 do you have?  GM T5s originally used the common Muncie/Saginaw bolt pattern, but by the mid-90s, GM went to the Ford bolt pattern on their T5s.  If you have a Muncie bolt pattern, then any normal Chevy bellhousing will work.  Note that S10s with the 4.3 V6 use the same bellhousing as the SBC (since that motor is simply an SBC with two cylinders missing).

Thanks Joe and Jim.  The T5 I have is from a 1987 camero.  The tag # is 1352-166.  It is not a world class.  Now Im not sure I want to use it.  I may shop around for a WC T5 or T56.

I plan to use a hydralic clutch setup. Will this setup work with the SBC bell housing?
