MG disks on a Ford 8.8

I'm curious if anyone has used their front MG disks on a Ford 8.8?

Is there issues with the mounting pattern?

I am getting close to sending my 8.8 out to get cut and will use Moser for the new axles. Is there anything I should know before I start moving forward?

Silly me!! I'm just trying to not have to do things twice or three times!!!

Doug, the rotors won't work because the bolt pattern is too small. They bolt to the back side of the front hub. The calipers are rather heavy, you can do better. They also have too much piston area. Also no provision for an e-brake.

I was affraid that was the case when looking at it but rather than guess I figured someone must of had the same idea in the past! It was worth a try!!

Doug, you are shortening an 8.8 already I take it? Youll have to order custom axles anyway.....I had my 8.8 shortened and bought moser custom axles and I am using nissan 240sx rotors which have the same bolt pattern as the mgb.

I have an place near me that will narrow your Ford 9" axles and housing for a flat rate but the splines are ground. Some folks have told me that this method of splining isnt good for a ton of power, does anyone else know the truth about the durability of cut splines?

In an MGB? Since a 9" is massive overkill you should have no worries.

Thats what I thought too. I have a variety of stock 9"s laying around, some truck and some car and I thought this is probably the least expensive route for me to get the gear ratio I want. I could get on of the axles I have narrowed and buy a gear set for less than the 650 it costs to replace the gears in the stock axle, which is what I'd prefer but I just can see paying that much for just the gears.

True. But check the fit, that 9" might be kinda tight.
I like the Dana-44 for size, weight, efficiency, cost and parts with the bigger engines, or the later 8-1/2" 10 bolt GM. But the 8" Ford is also a good choice, if a bit less efficient and not as strong. If you can find an old mail Jeep that axle is nearly perfect.

One thing you might look at is the Speedway catalog. They have some reasonable prices on stuff like light weight rotors.

Here is the easy way. 7.5 and 8.8 have same bearing flange.

That is interesting info - wonder how one switches from rear drums to 12" vented discs without some expected change to the hydraulic circuit valving....especially in a light rear chassis like a Ranger.
Seems to work for this chap tho'

He did the large Cobra front discs also, I don't know if he changed the master.

As if the rear of that guy's Ranger needs 12" vented rotors! The conversion is pretty interesting nonetheless. It left me wondering about ABS. Seems like the Ranger would really benefit... That extra hole in the bracket is an ABS sensor mount, isn't it? I expected trigger-wheel bumps would be cast into the back side of the brake rotors, but apparently not.

Hey, It does make the 7.5/8.8 look cool though! You can use the standard Mustang bracket and 10 1/2" solid rotor,same principle.

Doug, Standard 95-04 Mustang V6 rotors and calipers are the easy way.

FYI, I put Miata rotors and calipers on my GM rear. It was quite simple. Mosler supplied axles with the appropriate ends on them for me and I just welded a bracket on to the axle tube in place of the factory one. I can't imagine the Ford version would be any more difficult.

I chose the Miata parts because I have piles of them and the bolt pattern was the one I wanted. They are nice and light though.
