Thin water pumps

I have a 3.9 V8 I have put into my MGB GT and was trying to fit a puller fan rather than use the two pusher fans. However, the standard P6 water pump has a long nose, which is not used and stops about 40mm from the radiator.

Has anyone used  a QCP2059 or Buick pump or cut off the front of the P6 pump. I have a standard SD1 timing cover and have the usual GWP310 pump, which wasn't cheap so I am loath to just grind the front off and then try and thread it and then align the pulley.

I have read a thread where a pump was cut down but can't remember which timing cover was used.

An alternative is to tilt the radiator forward about 3/4" which appears to give me space....but how far does the engine move under braking and acceleration  ?                  

Any help will be greatly received.

I think you can use a Buick 300 WP. Over here they are about $50 brand new. May take some fiddeling to line up with the SD1 balancer though. There was a recent post on this at:

  This is a water pump from a P6 Rover. The end was chopped off & the flange ,was drilled & tapped 10/32. The pulley was then screwed onto the flange.I left the spigot in situ as a guide for drilling.

The Buick 300 pump comes in two versions, aluminum and cast iron body. Other than that I think they are the same.
