FORD 289 FACTORY MANIFOLDS HELP NEEDED

I'm running manifolds similar to this on my car.  Mine are exactly like they are in the picture, ie two studs sticking out next to an inverted dome outlet.  My plan was to build my own exhaust system off from this using 2 1/2 " stainless mandrel bends, pipes, and mufflers.  The one big question is, how did the factory hook the exhaust to this style of outlet?  Was there an O-ring, gasket etc?  To fire the engine for the first time I attached 2" "Buick Ball" adapters which are basically a piece of straight exhaust tubing with the end formed to a ball shape to mate with the inside contour of the manifold.  An integrated plate then tightens against the "ballooned" out portion and attaches to the studs.  It works, sort of...  but I'm wondering what is stock?  Better yet, can anyone tell me where to find the right "exhaust end" to attach to the manifold to start building a 2 1/2" exhaust system out of?  Stainless steel would be even better.

I'm lost for the moment.  Any help would be appreciated.

There is a donut that fits between the manifold and whatever you're using for a down pipe. When I get a chance, I'll dig mine out and send you pics.

Yes, And the Hi Perf had a right manifold similar to your left one. Hard to find nowdays but there is a 351 truck one that is similar.The low performance had one like your right one on the left side too.
