I need to turn mine off...  ton of hot air coming in from the pedal box opening.  What's supposed to close that off?

There should be a formed sheetmetal cover that goes over the pedals in the engine compartment. There is a rubber gasket that goes along with it. Have you got a picture of the engine compartment where the pedals are?

Its a chrome bumper pedal box.  There's the curved cover over the area where the pedals attach to the masters, but there's a big opening under the masters themselves.  Car was a rubber bumper shell - was there not that hole on a CB car?

Here's what the pedal box assembly looks like on a CB B with the pedal cover removed. A big-ass gaping hole where the pedals come through. The curved cover you spoke of should have a gasket around it to seal off the back of the pedal box.

Thanks Dan.  I'm going to have to look at mine.  I seem to recall the RB shell has a hole that extends past the verticle part of the pedal box.  I may have to make something to block it off.

I made something out of gasket material, with just narrow slits for the actual pedals.

Here's a picture of that area without the pedal box installed. The hole for the pedals doesn't extend back of the pedal bracket.

My 72 BGT has the same square hole as Dan's and with the Pedal cover installed it seals off the under hood area from the interior.  Without the cover, how do you mount the brake light switch?

I have the cover (although my brake switch is integrated in my brake bias valve).  I think my issue is that the hole on the RB shell is bigger than the one on a CB car - or at least it extends further back.  When I switched to a CB pedal box I had to open up the front of the hole but didn't think about closing off the back.  I think if I make a simple aluminum piece that goes under the pedal box & closes off all but some slots for the pedals & use some gasket material like Curtis suggested it should solve the problem.

Not sure I understand completely but there's a rubber plug that goes in the hole on the bulkhead directly behind the pedal box and there should have been a perimeter seal at the base of the box itself. Once the top goes on the pedal box, I'm not getting where air comes in.

I think you'll have the small cutout on the backside of the hole. I don't believe the non servo pedal box gasket covers it. There's also a gasket that wraps around the front side of the mount for the pedal box cover. I'm not sure how much heat difference that gasket will make but the extra hole in the back of the sheet metal blows straight into your foot.

Again, I didn't know there were as many differences between RB and CB cars.  I'm going to have to start paying more attention when I acquire parts.  I think the aluminum plate is a more permanent approach.

Rob, I have the same issue. I am going to add the gasket around the box and also do what Curtis did to see if that helps. My feet are burning up when I'm idling in traffic and I have closed off the heater vent.

The late cars have a fixed vent on both sides in addition to the big metal vent behind the center console.  I discovered in the 93-95 degree Texas heat that mine would not stop pouring hot air into the footwells.  Used two small rolled up micro-fiber towels to seal out the heat before I was totally well done!

Carl, I closed off the vents when I eliminated the cowl vent.  Mine is definitely coming in from the pedal box hole.  I'm going to fix it this weekend and will take some pics.

The hole on the RB car definitely extends further back than CB cars.  If you look between the pedal return springs, you can see the opening in this pic.  That part of the hole is on the master cylinder side of the pedal box so it's not blocked by the CB pedal box cover...


I fixed it by making a thin aluminum plate and put some thin gasket material under that...



Drove the car a lot yesterday ant it was like night and day.  No more foot warmer - way more enjoyable to drive!  One more thing checked off.
