When Are We "Done"?

I know the answer  ... never.  But at what point do you consider your swap "done."  When  the driveline is in and it moves around on its own power?  After a few 20 mile drives?  When  you've traveled cross-country for a major meet?  After the first 1000 miles?  I've done under a 100 miles since the swap and am chasing gremlins.  I call it the "sea trials" stage, but I'm a New Englander, what would you expect?  I wish I was 'done", but I know i'm not.

I've done all of the above as of this summer, but won't consider my car done till I:
A) get the AC finished
B) get the interior done
C) get an exhaust sound I like

I don't think a swap is complete until its owner has completed a How It Was Done form. I prefer not to receive that form until after the car has been legally registered and also driven around on its own power, but after that I leave "doneness" to the owner to judge. Carl Floyd's MGB is an exception. Obviously it's done, but I've given up waiting for a HIWD write-up on it.

Done?  It's not even close to done. Just finished my 12th year of coaching Little League & 12 years of Cub/Boy Scout leadership. Taught my 11 yo daughter how to ride a motorcycle a week ago. Who has time?

To do:
Engine work or maybe a LS
Better roll bar
Improve suspension
Design bonnet bulge
design splitter/front grill changes
Sebring rear treatment
Paint (still sporting 24 yo lacquer paint job)
Etc., etc., etc.....

Kinda like the honey do list.   Done? No such thing.

Just went for another test drive. Brake pedal sank slowly to the floor.  Ordered up a new master cylinder from Pegasus.  Done yet?  Not hardly.

Carl will never be done, heck it took him at least 4 years to replace the same worn out tires he drove up to Port Washington on. Who knows how long it will take him to tackle the other items on his list. LOL

My Spitfire is on it's 16th year on the road and it is not yet "done". I think of my car as a performing piece of art in progress. Once you get the bugs worked out, drive the hell out of it and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Is it done not hardly, but have met alot of my goals the last two years. Now to find to time to make some of the events. Hoping to retire in a couple of yrs :-)

Close to done will be when I get the center caps for my wheels, make the trim for the door panels, put in the rear surround trim, fit the speaker box and wire in the stereo, add the drain hose to the evaporator box, build the inner wing baffles, add some heat shielding to keep my feet from getting so toasty from the exhaust and mostly touch up the paint and remove a couple of sags then cut and rub, might have to redo the hood as there are a couple blisters that showed up on the side of the cowl scoop. But as said before are we really ever done? Nahh! I always will find something to tinker with.

I'll have you know there is still two grooves with just over 1/32 of depth!  

Just couldn't risk them cording out or the chance of rain on the at 2200 mile round trip to Texas.  Not sure how they would have fared on the gravel laden autocross, either.
