Specifically type 1 VW. Legal in GT-2, "should" allow 45% faster ramps over .842" flat tappet. 30" radius-yes ? Anybody using these ?  .5 deg. lobe side angle ? Regrind a roller cam ?  So many questios, so little time. Thanks, roverman.

Art, have you heard anyfhing more about the composite litters? We really have no hard data on them but the rumors seem pretty fantastic. Durable,  quiet,  no need for zinc additives, etc.

I just wonder how they are constructed, and how they resist being deteriorated by the oil.

Jim, I think Fred mentioned having/using the composite lifters.

I contacted 4 seconds flat. No elephant foot or mushroom lifters available. Composite material is actually ceramic.Thay do not mention friction reducers. I have Empi type 1 VW mushroom , tool steel with 1.220 big dia/.747" small, that pressure lube from lifter oil galley to push rod and .020" hole to lube the cam lobe.1.220" dia. will not clear companion lifters,(will need dia. reduction). Cheers, roverman.

Jim, I think you are right. I had forgotten. Any idea what thread that was? So ceramic eh? Seems reasonable.

I'm not Jim, but I do know the answer, "Cool case cam and lifters", May 16th.  roverman.

Art, my old Y block Ford 292 had mushroom style lifters. A couple of problems there, the "head" thickness will reduce the amount of cam lift according to the head thickness or the block will need to be machined from the underside to increase the depth of the lifter pocket. Second is that the lifter has to be able to be raised enough to clear the cam journals or you can't get the cam out. If you do use them then get yourself a set of old spring loaded wooden clothes pins, work great to hold the lifters up while you remove the cam.

For BOR engines, if you can get the cam "in" on 1-4 journals, lift will not be limited as the lobes "must" be shorter than the 1-4 journals. Got lifter bore centerline dimension ? This will determine maximum foot diameter. Cheers, Art.

Seems "other" race santioning bodies, like VARA require flat tappet lifters, no rollers ! Rover and sbb should allow approx 1.19" mushroom dia., without hitting companion lifter. Who has mushroom cam data base ? Seems like a billet roller  cam "might" work if ramps were'nt too steep, AND lobes were re-ground with .5 deg. angle on lobe to rotate lifter ?  Anybody-Fred ?  Cheers, roverman.
