Intake Manifold-Thermostat Housing ...help

I have a wildcat spider intake manifold I purchased from Ian Richardson at Wildcat Engineering back in 2006 and now want to use on my triumph Tr-8 with 4.6L engine swapping out the edelbrock.....I never purchased the thermostat housing when I bought it and need any help with where I can find one....I called Ian and he doesn't have any because there were to many options-he also said he is retiring now passing the business on to a colleague...the manifold is similar to the wilpower one available in australia..

Bob, Good luck with the "colleague". Have you checked the manifold for fit ? Mine would not fit any rover or sbb. "Maybe" a rover 4.4L .(aussie) ? I would check Offy remote houusing.   Good Luck, roverman.

I have fitted a Willpower single plane on a 4,6 engine and solved the thrmostat housing problem with std. Rover V8 part. It is not exactly pretty but works.

I think a SBC thermostat neck might work.

Making an adaptor would be relatively simple unless hood clearance is a big problem. A piece of 1/2" aluminum plate drilled to both patterns and then countersunk for the lower pattern and you could bolt on any outlet you wanted to match the hose configuration you need. I'd recommend small block Chevy as there are literally hundereds of thermostat housings built for that engine.

Thanks for the feedback.....I know that Ian Richardson made two different wildcat spider manifolds-one to fit standard rover v8 heads and the other one that fits his stage 1 & 2 heads which are different.I also talked to the owner of wilpower in austraila and he said he makes all the manifolds and the wildcat spider for Ian as private label -go figure... There is a kilkenny castings water outlet part # W076 that fits the wildcat manifold but it turns toward the distributor similar to Jukka's picture-available in austraila for about $30-I believe std rov v8.I have them looking at matching another housing as well because that manufacture hundreds of them.  I did some digging and found a fel pro gasket part # 35097 at advance auto parts that is an exact match for the rover v8 bolt pattern-70mm center bolt hole to bolt hole ....hmmmmm.....says its for ford british, toyota, etc....I checked housings for a ford 4.6L engine and found looking at pictures that there are housings that are 90 degree and straight on....Im in columbus Ohio so I went to jegs store and matched a mr gasket part # 2664 ford housing $12  (lots of options there) that is 69mm hole spacing and can work-little hole widening. I went to ford dealer and found a 2000 ford crown victoria with 4.6l engine housing (motorcraft #RH44) that is straight 90 degree with nipple bleed provision on top and also a 2000 mustang 4.6L sohc water housing 90 deg straight (motorcraft #RH49) that will also work...the motorcraft has flange on the bottom (1/16 inch) where it fits into a slot that has to be taken off but it fits. And my standard TR8 housing from the original manifold also works but the hose is directly at the distributor.  I will have the manifold/housing alum coated so I dont want any chrome stuff......

Dredging up an old one... I'm working on the Astre again and am trying to figure out how to run hoses to the heater core with the Willpower intake. . The return line is on the water pump but there is no provision for a supply line off of the front water crossover where it should be.  Can you Tee off of the bypass hose somehow?

There is also a tapped hole at the drivers side rear of the manifold.. what would this be used for?

I will check my photo archives. Can't remember how I ran the heater hoses.

OK found a photo. I used the tapped hole for heater supply and a connection behind the water pump as a return.

So you are essentially using the back port of the manifold through the heater core and  to the water pump bypass port and using the heater core as the part of the bypass?

On the stock GM engine the water flowed from the front water ports in the heads through a cavity underneath the carburetor and circle back around to the front on the manifold and exited out of the vertical thermostat housing in the front.

Have you had any cooling issues and does the heater core provide enough Heat?

On my wullpower intake the front thermostat housing crossover has a port drilled for the bypass. You can also see the modifications I had to do to my Kilkenny castings WO58 thermostat housing to get it so it would not Point towards the distributor.

Any ideas on what that threaded hole at the top of the pump is used for?

I´ve since gone the EFI route but yes it did work and provided enough heat to the heater core. The only cooling issue was my own fault. My radiator is lower than the engine, expansion tank is higher than the engine. Due to the top hose route I had an air pocket there and had fitted an air bleed connection. I ran a hose from the connection to the expansion tank. Any air would be removed. I thought that when I fitted this manifold I removed the air bleed connection from the top hose. No longer needed... WRONG ! The very test drive showed me wrong big time. So, back to garage and welded a connection back. The expansion tank is behind the engine and you can just about see a hose that has been plugged with a bolt. That is the other end of the venting line.

I have drilled a couple of holes in the thermostat so there is always some by-pass.

This is the current EFi spec. You can see the venting line running from the top hose to the tank (top passenger side). There is another hose running from the radiator to the expansion tank.

No idea.  That hole is plugged on my Buick 300 water pump. Tony, as is all the others that I have seen.
