Using Stock TR6 Muffler With GM 3400 V6

Well the time has come to fabricate the exhaust system for my TR6.  The engine I am using is a 2003 Gm 3400 V6 and the headers are shorty headers.  The headers have an OD of 2".  The TR6 muffler has an OD of 1.75" for the inlet pipes and 1.75" for the outlet pipes.  I am going to put in a crossover pipe as close to the engine I can and run dual 2" pipes out to the back.  
I would like to do this to preserve the stock appearance of the TR6.  
Do you guys think that this will work for this engine or will it be too restrictive?  On the 2003 Alero the two headers were connected and a single 2.25-2.5" pipe would run out to the back with a single inlet on the muffler with two outlet pipes.  I am thinking that the setup that I am planning to use on the TR6 will flow much better.

I dont see why it wouldnt work. Certainly lots more flow. Is it worth thinking about expanding the inlet pipes of the muffler so everything is two inch until it hits the muffler. Wonder what it will sound like, thats always the big question.

After a bit of a hiatus I finally have the exhaust system figured out; now all I have to do is get a local muffler shop to fabricate the thing for me.  I was originally going to go with all mandrel bent pipe for the system but I have decided to go with crush bent pipe in order to reduce cost on this project.  I don't think the reduction in power will be noticeable.  I used 2" OD vacuflow pipe and 1.5" rigid pink styrofoam for the elbows to mock up the system.  I can now take the individual runs to a shop and have them replicate them or I can haul the chassis to a shop and they can make the whole thing and install it for me.

What you did looks good and quick math says flow should be fine.  Probably would have saved a bunch of time just taking it to a muffler shop - a good exhaust guy would have been able to route the exhaust in a few hours.  But, now you know what can be done so you'll avoid a mistake in case the guy at the shop you go to isn't as concerned about doing a tight system as needed.

Hello Byron. Looks good, neat job.I do have a question though. If the vacu pipe is 2 inch outside diametre and the stereo foam is 1.5 inches,,,how does the stereo foam fit over the pipes? Am I missing something Thanks Tim

By the time the exhaust hits the muffler it will be cooler and so take up less volume, so the 1.75 inch outlet pipes should be fine.

The best option is to take the chassis to the muffler shop. Small variations in angles will lead to big variatuions in dimensions furher along the system.

I agree about taking everything down to the muffler shop but your careful work will prove to the guy that it is possible to route a tight system.
