For the one of you wishing to go with a fuel efficient (variable valve timing) powertrain, here's a complete set up listed in the D.C. area Craig's list: http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/pts/2407407127.html  .  There's so much accessories for these Miata powertrain such as supercharger, turbos and etc.....

Just a word of warning with the VVT Miata powertrains - those cars have a very good immobiliser built right into the engine computer. You need the Miata keys, the antenna from the ignition switch, the immobiliser and the computer as a matched set from the same car or you need an aftermarket engine computer.

An easier option is the powertrain from a 1999-00. The engine's a bit shorter, physically, and it makes very similar power and economy numbers. More importantly, there's no immobiliser.
