Fuel Pump Recommendations for a Rover 3.5 L

I am currently running a JEGS electric fuel pump on my car and it functions fine. However, it is a very loud
pump that runs constantly. Any suggestions for a quieter pump? I was tempted to just mount the electronic
SU I had on the car for the 1800 engine, but wasn't sure it would supply enough pressure for the Edelbrock
#1404 4BBL carburetor requiring 4-5psi at WOT. I have read through a number of How It Was Done articles, but none address the noise factors. Thanks.

The TR8 has an internal gas tank fuel pump that runs about 2.5 psi for the Zenith Strombergs and when we convert to a 4 barrel we still use the stock pump and never had any issues with fuel pressure.

VWs and other Euro cars use little rubber isolator bushings that are ideal for mounting electric fuel pumps.  They look like a barbell with bolts and nuts sticking out both ends.  They do wonders for cutting down on the noise.

I discovered that the JEGs pump is a diaphragm style and even with the rubber isolators it is still quite noisy.
I am going to purchase a Carter or Edelbrock rotary vane pump which, according to the spec sheets should be quieter by a large factor.

Hi Ken,
If the diaphram pump is too noisy then the Carter/Edelbrock pumps are going to be a dissapointment.
They are "loud".
They advertise 4 to 14 db quieter which means they went from a jumbo jet on take off down to a freight train at full power.
Like Mike, I'm a big fan of in tank pumps. They are silent, powerfull and durable.
Every OEM that I know of uses this type of pump, and for good reason.
There is another thread on the forum that you might want to check out. It goes into the fuel pump issue with a few different viewpoints.
What ever you choose, make sure to use an inertia switch to keep everything safe.

I just put a new SU type in mine, after the old one kicked the bucket as soon as the v8 started running.

I have a 1980 Rover 3500 V8 with an external Bosch fuel pump. This pump went flat. The numbers on it are 0 580 463 013 and a 12 V 341 and 041. The ends are male for pos and neg. What can I order to match this fuel pump and or is it the right one?

In other words; does anyone know if TR8 pump will work or any other type of fuel pump? I have not seen these exact numbers on the internet search.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi Vincent,

The Bosch #s that you are looking for are 69469 or 69536 either will work. The pumps are the same as several 75-91 volkswagen models, porsche 914s and 79-91 jags.
Any parts store should be able to dig up something comparable if not the same.
If you are looking for a used one concentrate on jaguar as they are mounted in the trunk and generally in better shape.
