Omni/Horizon flares

Can someone tell me if the flares from the Omni are sourced from each respective quarter panel or are they LH and RH fronts only or rears only. I haven't seen an Omni for a very long time and pics aren't giving me this info.

you can use both fronts & rears. Fronts are easier to remove from the donor & you don't have to cut away the inner fender.

It appears from some grainy photos and my grainy memory that the fronts are slightly wider than the rears?

Unfortunately, I don't recall. I have a couple of spare fronts but no rears to compare to.

I bought the set from the Roadmaster project that we decided not to use. Two fronts L and R as well as two rears L and R. They are a bit different but the actual width of the flare portion appears to be the same for both. The front flares can be cut with a wider "edge" that the rears because of the intrusion of the rear door opening on the edge of the flare, but both should be easy enought to fit.

What about the ones from the Roadmaster -- I sent two rears & sounds like Bill sent 2 fronts & 2 rears... so unless the project disposed of them already, we might be able to sell those & get some $$ back in the project account?

Still trying to find a pic of the Roadmaster. I've just started this project after a 16 year hiatus from Brit cars so I'm perusing all the websites that I can. See references the the "Roadmaster" but no pics. Have enjoyed your photo gallery though. Very informative.

What kind of shape are the surplus flares in and what are you asking for them?

Project Roadmaster is a co-op project by members of this site building a big block buick MGB GT. It was the brain child of Jim Blackwood. He's been the driving force behind it. Several members have paarticipated in the build. Those of us who haven't been able to travel have contributed parts &/or funds. The car is about ready to go to paint. See the sticky thread at the top of this MG board for more on it. Its quite a project and if the BBB wasn't enough, Jim engineered a bolt in Jag IRS to boot.

As for the flares, post a wanted ad in the site's classified section.

Rob, there was only one full set, the two rears you donated and the two fronts I donated. I bought them from the project when it was decided to go with the fiberglass front fenders and make our own formed flares to match in the rear. They'll go on my Midget this winter to replace the mostly bondo ones I made up years ago.
Geoff, try checking with Pick and Pull every so often. They do show up in yards around the country. also I believe I saw a post indicating rock auto has new rabbit panels with that car's flares for $48 ea. rabbit flares are a little smaller but overall very similar.

How much does PnP charge for a set? Can I roll out there with a saw? I am concerned that they will want you to buy the whole panel and a rear could get pricey. There is one just down the road. :-D

Here in KC they want $40 per front fender which isn't too bad. They often have sales on holiday weekends etc so watch their website and ads for times when you can save some money. Getting the fronts won't be bad as you can unbolt the whole fender and remove the flares later at home, but the rears will require some cutting with either a battery powered sawsall or a hammer and chisel. Most of the yards have price lists on the web site. http://www.picknpull.com/part_pricing.aspx
If you can get just the flare portion they might price it as a fender extension which is only around $20 per. Worth a try.
Of course there are other salvage yards to check as well, I just mentioned Pick n Pull because it's local for me and they have a great website with a car locator function. Worth putting out on the wire at other yards as well.

I just found a set of Rabbit front fenders for 18 a piece east of town, and a set of Omni fronts for 50 each at W 29th Street in Pueblo. They have at least 4 more sets of the Omnis. If you are in the Colorado front range area, I'd head there. Mine are for my Bugeye Sprite. The Omnis will go up front, and the Rabbits in the rear, had to take out about 1.5 inches at top of arch to fit the Sprite opening.

Sounds like a good catch. Unfortunately my car is in Fla. and I'm in Singapore. I'm going to try some Rabbit rear arch rust repair panels and see if I can get the right look.
