Any one using a Weber / Edelbrock 650fcm carb?

I need a bigger carb, but would like to stick with Weber. Has anyone got any experience of the 650 Thunder Carb??

Thanks

No.  But I can thoroughly recommend converting to EFI.

Careful though, with EFI you are liable to go so fast you will leave "scorchmarks"   ;-)

EFI is a good option Mr Jim. But that means my Bug Catcher would be redundant?

If you can show me an EFI setup that I can use my Bug Catcher on. I'll fit it...

I dont doubt that EFI is the most efficient system to use. But efficiency is not my concern. I just want balls out power for 10 seconds and to hell with the fuel consumption :)

If you are ever over in the UK. I'll show you just how much better a Weber is on the 1/4 mile. Then the only Scorchmarks will be in your pants dude !!

Don't think so.

I don't know anything about Edelbrock 650 carbs. I thought Holley carbs were much more popular for drag racing. Anyhow EFI really is the future, even for drag racing.  If you really want to keep the bugcatcher, maybe you should add a blower too... as these folks show: http://www.force-efi.com/bug16.htm

WOW!!
That is one nice piece of kit Curtis....

Roll on my bonus in September !!
I just need to convince my wife that Christmas is cancelled :)

The Holley will outrun any Edelbrock/Weber.  If you get one of the HP series you will be happy.  They are much easier to tune, get better fuel atomization, therefore more power.
The Weber is a little more trouble free, but if going fast is what you want, get the Holley.
I fight this question a lot.  FAST makes a fuel injection conversion that is a throttle body and is SELF TUNING.  Your bug catcher will fit and it will outrun your carb!!!

Spot on robert!!

I've tested the Weber 600 now. And the vacuum secondaries are no good for my use. I need a double pumper I reckon. She cant respond fast enough to wide open throttle from idle as she leans out and bogs off the line with this bigger carb on this harcourt single plane manifold.

I'm hoping to borrow a double pumper from a friends car to test very soon.

Are you still getting problems with that single plane manifold not creating enough vacuum to pull the secondaries in quick enough?

Has Tricky got a 650D/P or do you want to borrow my 750D/P to see what happens on W.O.T?

FAST injection is the way forward, I'll bring the bandages for when you tell the family that Christmas is cancelled this year. :)

Ha Ha!!

I have borrowed Tricky's spare 600DP. But have not had time to test yet. I've also jumped the gun and ordered a 600DP from the USA. Remanufactured and guaranteed for $300 including shipping to UK.

I've also ordered my new 15x9x28 ET Drag tyres. And I'm just doing a deal on another TH350 with transbrake kit.

But I've only bought the front half of my Roll cage ;)

I figure that I'll be able to do the carb thing 1st and test the engine pick up over at Tricky's farm yard where noise wont matter. Then I can roll it off the trailer to test the gearbox. She seemed to be stuck in 1st year at the last visit to the track. We got rained off so could not run. But cruising in the oits she did not want to upshift in D ?

I'm going to check the vac modulator 1st as it may just be that or a pipe off somewhere. Hence the purchase of the other box. It was rebuilt with the transbrake kit 3 years ago and has not been run as the guys project was shelved. It £200 and a bit of a gamble. But a lot cheaper than a rebuild on mine if I need one.

Have you tried a Weber/Edelbrock with Mechanical secondaries. I've run a 500cfm (Olds 215) and a 600cfm (Ford 302) and neither has exhibited the off-line bog that you are experiencing. (dual plane manifolds used on both engines)

If you still have the vac control unit on your TH350 it maybe that the single plane manifold isn't pulling enough vacuum for the gearbox to operate properly?

If you can find me a TH400 you can do a swap for my TH350 if you like. It has a shift kit already fitted and I have a brand new Transbrake/reverse pattern kit ready to fit......

Holley 600 DP now fitted and working well :)

I guess the single plane manifold just cant suck enough on this small engine to make the vac secondaries work on the Weber??

And I found the line to the vac modulator on the TH350 had come off. I couldnt test it though. Car not road legal at the moment. Now I need some more dyno time very soon  :)
