New diff for TR7

Hey guys, I didn't realize there was a forum on this site. It's been a while since I have been here, but I am glad to be here. OK, here's the deal. I have a 76 TR7 with the weak "banjo" style differential and a Ford 302 with a T5 trans. As you can tell these don't exactly "work well" together.  I was planning to swap with a post office jeep Dana 44, but I have never done anything like this.  Has anyone done this modification before? What is a good resource for finding some info about swapping diff's?  I have read the article about the jeep to MG swap, but just wanted to get my ducks in a row before I try something like this. Thanks for any help you might be able to give me.

Yeah, I've been there too. $1000 for a rear end is a bit pricey right now.  I can get a Dana 44 from a postal jeep salvage yard for about $350.  Kinda like to go that route instead.

Your looking at getting the width pretty close to the original. If it is a little bit wider  you will need to flare the rear fenders or try different rim offsets to get the tires tucked into the body work. Either sticking with the brakes on the Dana or a disc brake conversion. Then there is bolt pattern of the Jeep or the TR7. The Rally TR7V8s from the factory used a Salisbury 4HA which is a Dana 44. Any good fabrication shop can make mounts for the TR7 stock suspension arms. If the Salisbury handled 300+ horse in various terrains (Tarmac, Gravel, Mud & Snow) I am sure it can handle what you plan on doing.

Mike, thanks for the advice and the pics. I had already thought thru the wheel stuff, it's the mounts that kinda scare me. The pics REALLY help.
