tranny questions

hey all, i got a 215 im building to put into a mgb. i got the original dual path turbine drive tranny with it for free and i know this isnt the ideal transmission, but would it work? has anyone tried it?  this would just go in to get iit running and i would swap it for something else in a few years.

It has been done. One of the early editions of the Newsletter (MG-V8 Newsletter) has a "How it was Done" article on one. I don't remember now who, or the details, and don't know if that one is online yet, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't the only one.

Jeff Stobbe reported in Volume 6 Issue 2 that the DualPath worked well for him. No modifications at all were required to his 1964 MGB's transmission tunnel because the DualPath 2-speed is so small, and it's air-cooled so it didn't need an oil cooler or special radiator. Jeff's only negative comment was that if you keep the oil level in the tranny topped off it'll always leak out the vent, but if you leave it a quart low it doesn't leak at all. The article included a black-and-white photo of the DualPath transmission.

one more question yall, anyone know where i can get ahold of a torque converter?

I think that the Dual Path refers to the fact that this is actually a lock-up torque converter transmission (I may be wrong). But if so, it should be pretty efficioent, and that may explain why it can get by with air cooling.

I thought that Dual Path referred to it having two speeds.

hmmm. maybe Dual Path has a dual meaning?
