Hi all,

Longtime lurker, or at least I was around a decade or so ago when I first looked into the notion of putting a V8 into my MGB. I proceeded in a different direction to make my B feel fast; I bought an MG TD. But the idea of putting a V8 in an MGB always seemed like a good idea to me, so I've had an itch to try it one day.

I've now gone and done the thing I swore I would never do: buy somebody else's unfinished project. But I reckon it's a worthy project. It belonged to a friend of mine's father. He was puttering away at it as a retirement project for quite a while. Time marched on and he has decided he is running low on energy to finish it. They thought I might be a good candidate to complete it and get it on the road, despite my dubious mechanical skills. I have an MGB and an MG TD that I mostly keep running, so at least I'm not entirely new to British cars. I figure I'll learn a lot along the way with this project. And here we are.

The car itself is a 1974 MGB GT with a rebuilt Buick 215, Rover fuel injection, and Mustang T-5 transmission, rear end, axle, and rear brakes. It was a chrome bumper car, so they did a lot of modification to get the engine, etc., to fit. I have a large pile of documentation in the form of the project log the father kept, and will get another large pile of documentation when I pick up the car. As near as I can tell, most of the big stuff has already been done, though there's still a pile of wiring, plumbing, interior, etc. to be done. And then we'll see what we have. I have very few specifics in mind for what the car must be or changes I want to make in how they've proceeded thus far. Mostly I'm looking to finish off the project properly and to get it running reasonably well. I'm also aware that may not be an entirely smooth road.

It will actually be a couple of months before I take possession, so I'm just setting up things like this forum account for now. I expect I'll start a build/project log around then. And I'm sure I'll be asking for help and advice as I try to figure things out. So for now this is just howdy, and I'll see you all down the road a bit.

Here's a picture of the engine in the bay from a couple of years ago when the project began to stall and the car itself from last month. Many more photos to come once I have the car itself in hand, I'm sure. In the meantime, howdy!
