I am putting a Ford 2.3L turbo in my GT6 and I just got the transmission for it. It doesn't fit. It only has ten splines on the input shaft. I think it is from a 5.0 or a V6. Can anyone tell me how to make this work? I need a bellhousing and the right input shaft. Is this possible?

I think the 5.0 T5 and the 2.3 had 11 splines but don't quote me on it. The 5.0 T5 pilot shaft is larger and it has to be machined down to the size of the 4 cylinder pilot bearing. They put T5s in all makes of cars so who knows what it is out of. Contact Hanlon Motorsports. They are T5 specialists and can look it up if the tag is still on the tranny. They are very helpful.

Both 5.0L and 2.3L ford T-5's should be 10 spline, but the pilots are different.  The 5.0L trans can fit a 2.3L by using an off the shelf pilot bushing instead of the standard roller bearing, details on just about anything 2.3T ford  can be found at www.turboford.net

I may be picking up a '71 GT6 and doing this swap myself, but I'll probably just get it running with the stock motor at first while I do some of the cosmetic stuff.

Nick,

Sorry to say, I missed your posting until Eric just posted.

Have you looked at this list?

I guess there are other websites that recommend britishv8.org JUST for that list! This will let you know what the gearbox originated from and from there, you can figure out spline count and so on.

As far as a bellhousing, I cannot help. That would have to be something you ask Ford guys. Maybe the 2.3 and the 2.8/2.9L V6 shared a similar bellhousing bolt pattern, if so, maybe one off a Capri or Ranger would work. Maybe there was a ranger or another 2.3L powered vehicle with the bellhousing you need. I do have 1 ford bellhousing and Ford T5 sitting around here so if you can post pictures of the bell required, maybe i might be able to help.
