Hello Gentlemen,  I am in the deciding stage of my build where it's time to pick an engine... so many amazing swaps have been done, but I haven't read a lot of personal reviews after the swaps.  How has it affected the handling and fun of these cars?  These forums are smothered in "B's" but are lacking in the Spridgets.  I'm considering an Oldsmobile Quad 4, GM 60* V6 or Buick 215 V8?  What are some of the experiences?

It's pretty dated tech by today's standards. But back in the late 70's my 65 Midget ran a bored and stroked Datsun 6.
3 liters of big cammed, high compression, triple webered gloriousness.
Not many cars since have sounded that good or been that much fun.
Swapped in a TR4 rear end as it was the perfect width. And unlike a whole string of stockers, it managed to stay together.
Spent the rest of my time figuring out brakes.
Never did get it to stop well, but times have changed so braking these days should be no problem.
That spindly little folded paper front suspension proved to be surprisingly durable. A proper rebuild and custom valving in the lever shocks was all it needed.
The shifter came out in the trunk so a remote linkage was made along with a 13" driveshaft.
Some good old 13 x 10 Keystones and BFG's and it was good to go.
I really miss that car. I should build another one. But the memories are probably better!

If you google "third rail sprite" there is a guy in new york who runs a very nice bugeye sprite with a 60* V6 and T5...

That Bugeye is a beast!  I wonder if it still rides on rails or if he's pushing it around corners...
