Gas mileage

Anyone else track theirs? I'd never tracked mine, but a couple people asked me at the meet what mine was so I got curious. I added up all the receipts & calculated it this past weekend... I was pleasantly surprised to find 26.14 MPG average for the 2208 miles -- which included the little bit of running around Indy & the autocross. That beats the roughly 12 MPG the one other time I checked it (around town). No idea if that's good, average, or bad (& don't really care - most of my miles are around town, so will be closer to the 12 anyway!)

Rob, I got 23.22 MPG ( in my MG) on my 1829 mile trip to MG 2015 in June so you did pretty good.

On the highway I'll average around 26 under normal conditions. I've gotten as high as 30 before under ideal highway conditions, but that's only happened once or twice.
Around town it's in the low 20's or high teens if I'm in the boost!
Overall I'm pretty happy with the fuel economy since I didn't build it with maximum fuel mileage in mind.

We only got Cool 25 MPG also :-). Rob, yours is good also.

Rob, that is pretty good mpg. In the Dually Mammouth averaged 9.8 mpg on a 5500 mile trip. The TR6 didn't use maybe an 1/8th tank while in Indy. I 'm getting around 26 mpg on highway use with prior calculations.

I didn't bother this time. The last three V8 Meets I have been averaging 25-26mpg. For the four sessions on the race track (Mid-America Motorplex) in Omaha I was getting 9.3mpg.

Greatest vacation ever. Never met a better bunch of people all in the same place at the same time. Hope to be able to connect with you again.

On fuel consumption, the ambulance loaded with two fat men and two funny guys managed a respectable 14.5 mpg running mostly 75 mph.

Rob, I get about the same as you and am pleased. We have kept some real good records on several trips and the mileage seems to be around 26.

I guess I don't care about the miles/gallon, its the smiles/gallon that count.

Hi,
I'm the guy with the amber colored E type Jaguar. It has overdrive and a milld 302. My wife and I averaged just over 20 mpg in 1850 miles.

Tim, I would have to say that your 1850 mile trip was a pretty good first time shake down cruise.

Tim, I am bummed I didn't get to know you better. Your Jag is gorgeous! My wife went to UT in Texas. She wasn't at the meet and it's a good thing as you'd have had to wipe drool off your car daily (UT's color is burnt orange)! Hope to get to know you guys better next time.

I got about 22 mpg for the trip, but I also had a grin on my face the whole time! I wish conditions for the autocross would have met the rest of the family"s approval, I could have probably knocked that 22 down to 16 or so...

I've checked mpg over multiple thousands of miles in my 3.4 V6 and it's usually 26 hgwy somewhat less around town, far less on a track.

I drove the Roadmaster from Indy to NC and it managed about 17 mpg, pretty good for 455 cubic inches.

I'm currently in Oregon, last week I drove over 2000 miles from TX here and averaged 24 mpg in a stock 1986 C4.

The fuel consumption in my TR6 running the GM LT1 V8 is pretty ordinary. Highway cruising I'll get 26 mpg to the US gallon at 80 mph.
( I know it doesn't sound possible but the faster I cruise, the better fuel mileage I seem to get)

I log almost every tank fill in this handy little calculator. It's a slide rule affair where I match the distance travelled with the fuel consumed.

These are my entries driving Toronto to Omaha to Richmond Va in 2013. Track days at Mid-America Motorplex brought the numbers down but to and from Omaha showed an average of 32 mpg Imperial or 26 mpg US gallon.

I think it's a good way to spot something going wrong with you ride.

I can relate to that!
My most recent trip to Grand Rapids, Michigan yielded 22.6 mi/gal (US) going and 26.8 mi/gal (US) returning. Not sure I understand the difference since average speed was 5mph higher (75-80mi/hr) for most of the return - sometimes I suspect that the filling stations pumps are skewed to their advantage.

In Ken's case, I believe it has to do with that 6th gear. It requires a higher MPH to get into the sweet spot of the engine's powerband. At lower speeds, the engine is just lugging along.
