Thank you. Do you know if the cover seal is mounted from the front or back? I Understand original Buick timing covers the seal was installed from the back.

I was told all new after market Front timing covers are able to have the rubber oil seal mount and accessible from the front.

I don't recall if the seal went in from the front or the back on the stock covers. I'm not sure it really matters. The best thing you can to for the front seal is wither use a new damper or install a stainless sleeve on the damper nose. Those work really well. A neoprene seal will go right in the old cover, and if you do have to replace one it's going to be a lot easier with the cover off the engine anyway even if it can be installed from the front. Aftermarket covers tend to be expensive, and sometimes of questionable quality. If I was going that route I expect I'd spring for the cover from TA-Performance. Pretty high quality stuff from those guys.

You are correct, the OEM seal installs from the back.

The Buick/Olds 215s came with rope seals. I don't know for sure, but I thought the early rover covers had rope seals too.

I switched to a Buick V6 cover years ago. Still has its original seal. IMHO, neoprene seals should last a very long time and you should be about to remove/reinstall your timing cover without worrying about damaging them.

Just pop out the rope seal retainer on the inside and a neoprene seal presses in.

Yes, 1975 Range Rover engine had rope seals.

I think the Buick V6 neoprene seal is a direct fit but not positive. I used the one TA sells for both my 34 and the Roadmaster's 455.
