Engine Rebuild Austin Healey 100-6 (1958)

Sooooo..... being a new owner, and needing my engine rebuilt (and NOT prepared to do it myself - don't want to mess it up!), how many hours of labour should I be planning for, at the very generous end of the estimate?

Leslie when I was planning on getting a basic rebuild done on my TR6 engine I got an estimate from a local machine shop and the estimate was 16 hours for the head and the block.  The shop rate was $110/hr (Canadian $).  After I factored in the cost of all the parts I gave up on it and went to an engine swap.  Which in the end gives me a much better engine.
Anyways each to his own.

Thanks for that. I'm not averse to spending the money for it though, just want to know whether I need to remortgage the house, or whether I can rely on savings!

Leslie, You "might" start by speaking to Moss Motors or British Parts West, as to what comercial accounts they sell to, in your area.Specialized companies, like these tend to have good prices/quality, on parts. IMHO,. Good Luck, roverman.

There are engine rebuilds and then there are engine rebuilds... I think you might find that costs and results vary widely from shop to shop and from location to location. If a shop isn't familiar with a particular (fifty-five year old) engine, they may give you a really screwy estimate.
