LT77 speedometer drive gear

Hi, has any one swapped the speedo drive gear. I am replacing a white gear for the black 8 tooth gear.

Problem is when I split the rear casing the gear dropped out and I don't know which way round to put the new one back in. The teeth are tappered one side and therefore I assume lead the driven gear in.

Any help would be appreciated.
