4.2L Rover Intake manifold Water outlet flange choices

I'm new to this site and was looking at the MGBV8 photos etc.. I see MANY with a straight forward (literally) designed thermostat housing/flange...  Mine outputs towards the left fender and routes the hose OVER the distributor. I'd love to route the upper hose around the distributor if possible.

Can you suggest alternatives???

There are a few variations of thermostat housings from the Buick/Olds days through the variouis Rover engines, you should find one that fits. If you don't then you could build one to suit your application similar to what we did for the Roadmaster project. We turned the original outlet by cutting it off the housing (aluminum housing) and then welding it on with a filler and 90 degree bend so that the hose would pass in front of the distributor. We did have to turn the distributor 180 degrees to clear the vacuum advance housing.

The nearest to you requirement is the housing for the Edelbrock Performer manifold which exits straight with a slight rise to the opening and has provision for the by pass to the water pump as used on the buick 215, early rover and MGBV8 engines,

Checkout the Edelbrock site or retailers like Summit.

When I was using a four barrel manifold, I purchased a cast iron thermostat housing for a Buick 300 engine from l Autozone  for a little over $10.00.  The iron housing points forward.  Sometime after that I was able to snag a aluminum one on Ebay identical to the iron one.  When I switched to Rover hotwire injection I used the aluminum one  rather than the one that came with the Rover manifold.   I am using MGB-V8 radiator and my top hose is a L1239 (1 1/2" on thermostat end and 1 1/4" on radiator end) and a L 159 for the bottom end.  Both hoses needed some trimming on the 1 1/4" end to fit.  I am not using a bypass hose, and plugged the fitting on the timing cover.
