Because the Healey is notorious for ripping out mufflers, I set out to find the thinnest mufflers possible.  Came up with these Spintech Cruisers:

They measure 16 x 9 x  ........  2 1/4 in.

Can't wait to hear 'em.  Might work for others looking for a muffler solution.  Here's the webpage: http://www.spintechmufflers.com/mufflers/street-mufflers/cruiser-mufflers-7000-series/cat_31.html

Rick,

Interesting. I'm curious how loud they are. Let us know.

Rick, is there a flow rating ?  roverman.

Can't speak to Roverman's question about flow rating but can speak from experience with Spintech mufflers. Installed them on a Cobra (302) w/under car exhaust and they fit and sounded great. Nice throaty sound when in the gas, decently quiet when cruising around town...and the guys at Dr. Gas where I got them were great to work with. Exhaust diameter was 2 1/4".

Thanks, David.  That's encouraging.

Art - no flow rates but you can look here to see the construction details:  http://www.spintechmufflers.com/index.php?_a=viewDoc&docId=1  The Cruiser series isn't a race muffler, which I didn't want, so it may not produce ultimate flow.    I ordered them directly from Spintech and they're made on premises.  You could probably get flow info by giving them a call.

Happy Healeydays,

OK, here's what they sound like at idle:

<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SBTe53uRcOk?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SBTe53uRcOk?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

Not whisper quiet, but not outrageous either.  You could probably quiet them down with some resonator tips if you desired.  I'll post an "at speed" clip once I'm on the road.
