Cypher the vin # ? Seller on craigs list says, "It's a very rare ,performance sports car, made in Germany". Dusseldorf maybe ? lol. Anybody ? Thanks, roverman.

This is a great find for someone! Those German-made 1983 Triumphs are indeed very rare.

Looks more like a 1980 California specification TR8 and really not so rare.......looks like one heck of a project!

If your goal is to build a killer TR8 piece by piece, that looks like a good one to start with. Bet once you clean off all of that dirt, theres a decent car under there. Someone should swoop in on that one and then come back here and brag about the great deal they got.

Does anyone have any idea where to find out more om the 4 wheel disc brake setup like the factory had available for the TR-8's. I'm interested in obtaining information whith the potential purchase & installation on my '81 TR-8.

Never was such an animal. They came with single caliper disks up front and drums in the rear. All 4 wheel disk brakes on TR7's and TR8's are custom. Your most bang (or stop in this case) for the buck is a multi piston, vented disk conversion at the front and just redo the rears.

Having said that, there are quite a few rear disk conversions out there. For lots of examples of big front and rear disc conversions, best to go to the Wedge forum at: www.forum.triumphtr7.com

The factory offered a rear disc brakes Part # ART261Xbb on the "heavy duty axle" Part # STR418 (Dana 44/Salisbury 4Ha). All Special Tuning parts and extremely rare. You can do a conversion using Ford SVO rear calipers and Tempo rotors. I have a set up that will fit under a 13-inch aftermarket rim, but not the stock TR8 alloy rim. I think it is in one of my posts in Race Cars.

But Mike,

How may did they actually sell?
Was "Joe Public" able to get their hands on it or just "approved" firms/racers?

The Ford SVO conversion is definitely the way to go for those wanting rear disks.
