can you tell the difference between a 3.5 rover sd1 and a 3.9sd1 just by looking

Heres a list of all the engine numbers.

All but the earliest P5/6 engines have the numbers next to the dip stick and start with the compression ratio 9.35/1 and then the engine number itself. you really want an engine with the 9.35 compression ratio.

The most common Range rover 3.9 engine numbers will start with 35D or 36D in the UK there are different numbers for TVR and Morgan versions but they tend to go for silly money.

There were no 3.9 SD1 engines.

thanx kevin great help i think the engine i bought was the 3.5 sd1 rover but cant find my paper work and guy doing conversion asked me to try finding out for sure do you know any uk numbers for 3.5 sd1 many thanks again
