Art, with the cam gone I'd be willing to bet you could go to at LEAST a 4" stroke.  (402+?) And those big bores would let you completely unshroud the valves...

Now put this one in perspective! My project is a TR8 coupe that is 1 of 158 built. I am taking it down to a shell. Welding the seams and a roll cage. Reinforcing suspension connection points and opening up the wheel arches and screwing on fender flares and a spoiler. Oh and drilling holes for all kinds of neat gadgets! So the TR8 purist upon finding this out were a little puzzled. Yes there are TR8 purist and well what is considered modified TR8 which do all bolt on/in changes. I got the why not just convert a TR7 to TR8 specifications and build a rally car! My answer was I only see a TR8 in my garage. Why convert a TR7 to a TR8 and carry the badges as a TR8 when the same guys who look at me like I have a hole in my head will say.....well its a conversion and not a real TR8. Dammed if you do and dammed if you don't!
