I just received this note from Mary Schils:

BRITISH V8 2008   ---   MEET UPDATE

These are some suggestions for all the people who are wondering what can be done instead of the scheduled events for The British V8  2008 meet.

The city of Port Washington and the surrounding cities are small, quaint and easy to get to. There are transportation services available to someone who's spouse might be off and running with their vehicle. For anyone interested, you can check out the web pages of the following cities;  Port Washington, Grafton, Saukville, Cedarburg, Mequon, Sheboygan, Kohler, Sheboygan Falls and West Bend.

Here are some things that could  be enjoyed. My garden club is having a garden walk this summer and we'll will have some beautiful gardens to tour. One of my hobbies is flower and tree gardening. I will be more then happy to conduct an educational tour of my yard, explaining plants, flowers and landscapes.

In Port Washington, there are charter fishing boats that run daily from of the harbor. Large salmon and lake trout are some of fish you can catch.

There is a bike trail that connects many of the small cities. It is located near the Country Inn and Suites. Bike rental is available at the Grafton Ski and Cycle 262-377-5220.   The bike trail is our old inter-urban railway path. It is graded and smooth.

Our area has many golf courses. Our public courses are some of the best in the country.  There are some real challenging courses.  The  Kohler Company has built Blackwolf Run and Whistling Straights. There is also The Bear, a Jack Nicklaus designed course and the Bog, designed by Arnold Palmer.

Wisconsin is an area where the glaciers melted. The result of this has given us beautiful rolling hills. You can follow the Kettle Moraine Scenic Trail signs and travel for a couple days. There is an Ice Age Museum on the Trail that is also very interesting.   Another point of interest on the trail is The Basilica of Holy Hill. It is located on one of the highest hills in this area and has a very interesting history

Probably everyone coming has, at one time, used a Kohler plumbing fixture in their kitchen or bath. Kohler Company has free daily tours of their factory. Also the Kohler Design Center is open for touring to learn how Kohler came to be a global leader in products for the kitchen and bath as well as a major player in power system, furniture and hospitality industries. Other interesting places in Kohler are the American Club, Woodlake Village and its many small shops.

Our area is filled with excellent restaurants. With in walking distance from The Country Inn and Suites is Nisleits Country Inn. German food is a specialty in our area.  Milwaukee, 20 miles from Port Washington, has a population with German Heritage and  one can enjoy delightful dining.

Our "Badgerland Backyard Bash" will feature homemade desserts.  Our friends and neighbors have agreed to make their favorite desserts for your enjoyment. Everyone is excited to welcome you to our area and they want you to have fond memories of  your trip to Wisconsin.

These are just a few of the things that come to mind. If anyone has a special interest please let me know and I can try to find something related to that in our area.

No one will be left behind!  If your "significant other" is busy with car talk or on one of planned events, you will not be alone. Just let me know.

P.S   It is now time to fill out your registration forms and mail them to us. We need to know how many people are planning to attend in order to order enough t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc. It's only three (3) months away.

Jack and all attendees,
The color of all regalia is going to be British Racing Green (or as close as we can get). The logo will look something like this;

Hey Paul and Mary, our registration is on its way...see you all in July!!

Everyone

I'm starting to look into getting an "I-PASS" card to ease passing through Chicago on the way to and from the meet. Has anyone done this yet? Looks like you should allow about 2 weeks to process an order. If I'm reading things correctly, they want $40 + $10 deposit for a card and I'm trying to figure out if it's worth it. Anyone know about how much it cost for the tolls using I-90/I-94 through the city? Any info on this would be appreciated.

Scott,
Here's the Illinois Hwy Toll Calculator from their website.
http://www.getipass.com/tollcalc/TollCalcMain.jsp
The last time I went on I-94 through Chicago was a couple of years ago - seems to me there were about 3 or 4 toll booths and the total cost was under $2.
Unless you plan on using the e-ticket a number of times, it seems like an unnecessary purchase just for this one event
  See you in Wisc, Graham

Scott Costanzo

Graham,
Mary Schils had mentioned doing this at the banquet last year...thought I missed something somewhere. I just called the Illinois Tollway and confirmed the $50 charge. Not worth it to someone just passing through the city. Thanks for the response! See you in July.
