I found my wife a type IV Alpine.  (I will post pics when I fig'r out how.)
This car is pretty solid.  Typical SoCAL  car.
She wanted to keep it all original because of the I-4 and auto trans.  Upon first tear down we found the head
had serious electrolysis.   That and there were quite  few broken parts in the engine.
So the go ahead for a little v-8 install has been given.  Honestly she said she would be bored with the I-4 very quickly.   It looks like a 302 with 351w heads or a set of aluminum windsor heads.
The point is not to make a ALGER but a Alpine custom.
I have done some research on the differences with the Tiger and the Alpine.   My buddy is currently doing some work on a Tiger.   So I have a good visual on the required parts.
My back ground is in restoration of mustang.  This car is no where near the basket cases that I have resurrected.
My last was a 65 mustang coupe that was a 4 link rear and a coil over front suspension w 4w disc.
So I kinda want this Alpine to go into that direction.
I have seen Bob's H's Tiger.   Exactly the direction also.
After all she is going to need something to keep up with the FFR I am going to build this fall.
Can anyone give me some more info on the conversion?
I will do some more reading here on the site.
Thanks.
Pete

I think you should put a turbo motor in it like a 302  with a c-4 auto

Yeah the 2.3 turbo has crossed my mind.  I had a 86 Turbo T-bird that was a wolf in sheeps clothing.
Base line SVO 2.3's were running 275 hp.
I beat the day lights out of the engine and it just kept on going.

So has anyone done that install?  The stock brakes will definately need some upgrades.

Hello Pete:

Before you jump into a V8 install, check out doing a 2.6L or 2.8L Ford V-6.

For an example of the 2.8L install check out Rob Wiseman's Alpine on this site.   FARB, but other V-6s, and many modern I-4s require a lot of modification to work in the Alpine.

Thanks for the advice but I going the V-8 route.
The Alpine will be used on the track and street.  It basically is a replacement for my 65 mustang and my need for a Cobra.

old hp 260

i'm going to put a 351 w in my 66 alpine not sure which transmission i want to run. this will be a mild street strip car with overdrive.

Hi New Owner,
What was the final result of your project??
In Oz we have CRS who make adaptor kits that
will take a TH700 onto most early pattern Fords.
Personaly I would have built a 347 "Steetfighter
with Tri power carbs or a 650 Barry Grant R/D.
There are so many options that are governed
by that elusive commodity called MegaBucks!
All the very best from Skyeking..[Noel.]

I put a 2,8 L v6 Ford in my 67 Alpine thirty years ago, and for many years it was my daily driver.  I like this combo better thanthe Tiger I had at the same time. Lighter handeling and the V6 came with an automatic. I still own it, but the Tiger is long gone.  The steering gear prevents setting the engine as far back as it is in a Tiger, so go with a light  engine, but the BOPR are too wide to fit easily.  BTW, this was my first engine swap, many more since.
