Ive never been a fan of cast cranks.. Just how much abuse can the Buick 300 or an offset ground Rover 4.6 crank take?
Do you think it could handle up to 13 to 1 compression and 7000 RPM?

are there any forged options other than the wildcat items?

. I understand these are Ford 302 rough castings that are finished to Rover specs..
Do you think I could have one made in the US?

I like the Ford crank idea. I wonder if they sell a bare forging of the 347 stroke (3.4"). That would be cool. That said: I haven't heard of someone breaking a cast crank in our engines but there are a lot less guys running this engine than the SBC. Right?

I'd like to see where the Ford crank takes you though. Interesting. I got your phone message late yesterday BTW. I'm working on the Vega tonight though...

The SBB guys (350 mostly) go above 700 hp on the cast crank and I think one car at least is in the 1000 hp range. Haven't heard of the cranks being a problem. Mostly they want better heads, intakes, head gaskets, you know, stuff to make more power. Though there is a project in the works to make a block girdle.

Any idea if this block girdle project has been completed?          Doesn't sound like cast crank should be much of an issue.  Just tying it down well.

Do you speak of just an alloy girdle plate or block sump girdle ?

NixVegaGT

Are you going to use that, Dimitri? Where did you get it again? I think I remember you saying that it was a spare part from a race team?

It is one of the four Block Sump girdle who waren made by Janspeed - ADA for the Triumph TR8 Biturbo LeMans.
The engine delivered an power of 475BHP. http://www.tr7smeets.centerall.com/page267_4.php
Two block sump girdles waren used by Janspeed-ADA (one for the LeMans project and the other in one TR7 for rallycross).
One sump was sent to TVR and the last to Wildcat (Ian Richardson).
I bought it last year from an guy in UK.
