Hi, I'm Dne' and I'm new to the site;) I'm currently working on my 71 TR6 and at the point of thinking what type engine/drive train I'd like to toy with. I'm extraordinarily interested in the Timothy Amey setup, but don't know how to proceed:(   I would like to know how this engine would do without the supercharger. I'm not looking for a screaming engine, just something dependable with some decent pep, but not break the tires loose kind of pep.  I do not want a Ford v8, I have that in my 67 Mustang, though familiar, I just don't want another Ford engine. Darn, I have to go, but I'll be back!;)

I think that without a supercharger that the SVT engine would give you somewhere between 170 and 200 horsepower. The engine and transmission would probably be about 150 pounds lighter than theTR6 engine and transmission which would help the car handle better and make it more zippy.
You may have some trouble locating the SVT engine as they are rare.
You should also look at the GM Ecotec engine.  It would give you similar performance to the SVT engine.  In both cases you are going to have to convert from a FWD configuration to a RWD configuration which can be challenging.
Personally I would go with the Ecotec engine.  If you can locate a wrecked Pontiac Solstice with a manual transmission then you will have a RWD configured Ecotec drive train.

I, as you, had done V8's for the years and when considering my conversion, ruled them out. I was looking at a six cylinder just to keep it real-TR6. I looked at the Cadillac, and the Toyota 1 or 2JZ's.  The Toyota came in a very close 2nd to the chosen one; the GM Ecotec LSJ.  Wow what a great little engine.  Any way here is my build and if you have question, you can PM me here or on the 6Pack site.

I am not here much so I would prefer the 6Pack site.

This is what I used to do..............

Hi Denee,

While I love all the V8 conversions such as Calvin's beautiful job et'all.
I've always thought that the sound of a six in the TR6 was it's most desirable trait.
The twin cam 4 valve screamers are almost there but still miss the mark slightly.
I'm not one to follow the well traveled path.
So in my mind you need a good old fashioned two valve straight six.
You can't replicate that sound any other way.
In that vein I would have a good hard look at the jeep 4.0 six.
Support for this engine is huge. Heads, cams, intakes, headers are all easy to find at decent prices. Kits are available to take it out to an easy 5.0L. It's a RWD engine so conversion is a no brainer
The casual observer would think it was stock until you took him to school.
Anyway that's my two bit's.

Live like you mean it

Here is another possible source for the Pontiac Solstice drivetrain:  http://www.v8pontiacsolstice.com

The straight 6 sounds so great so why not stick with that config.  Used BMW pre 2000 are a great fit and now $1-3k on eBay.
I have yet to sort out the ECU, integrate wiring, etc so take this as a thought from an unfinished build--but its been done before.  see

The Ford Six (200/240cid) might be a good choice too, light, compact and lots of performance parts available, easily turbocharged if you want more power.

Another option could be the Volvo I-6, 24 valve, great engine but I'm not sure of the dimensions.

The Ford 200 six is a great compact 6, The Jeep 4.0 another great six. The Toyota Supra, BMW and Volvo excellent choices also. Too many choices!
